The cog test is the MMPI-2. Look into it just so you'll know what to expect. Cheers.

No, the MMPI-2 is a type psych test. If you spend too much time trying to "beat" it, you're likely going to psych yourself out and get an inconclusive result.

I didn't say try to "beat it", whatever that means. But it's nice to go in there knowing what to expect. People say don't think and just answer it quickly but that's not entirely correct. Should take about 15 seconds a question and stay in the same mindset the whole time for consistency. Good luck.

I'm sure they'd make it work. The people working in pilot hiring are very friendly and understanding.

For those that interviewed over the past couple months:

How long to call for medical/PFO?

Anyone PFO'd after the medical?

I interviewed in late October, called just under four weeks later, medical the next day and an offer just under a week after that.

Hey guys/girls

I did an interview about a year ago and, unfortunately, got the 6 month PFO. I'm really hoping to get another crack at it and just wondering if anyone knows what the odds are of getting another one only one year after doing an interview. Do they generally wait longer before you get another try? Cheers

Frankie,

I had an interview in 2007 and recieved a PFO (the good kind). I haven't heard from them since nor do I know of anyone else with a PFO that has been called back in the last year.
Anyone else?

What would the bad pfo say different than the good one. I don't know if mine is in the first or second category.

Thanks for the responses guys. I knida figured that's the way it would be. They probably have a gazillion resumes on file, so I'm sure they can do a lot of interviews before diving into the reject pile :)

Hey guys,

Some interesting and some confusing stuff in this forum.

I'm an Air Force guy
College Diploma
>4500 Total
>4000 PIC
Second Language
>12500lb time (single pilot stuff)

I applied a month ago and got the email for an interview in January last week. Seems like a very well polished process.

I will do some prep but I get the sense that if you are just yourself, and that means being an up front, honest professional...the cards will fall where they're supposed to.

Looking forward to it!

What type of experience are people getting interviewed with?
Which are the guys/gals getting the jobs?
Does anybody know the pass rate for guys/gals doing the interviews?
What is the standard time from interview to PFO/medical?

Any info that you are willing to pass along would be great, I've got a date for Jan and was wondering what my chances are? And any advice or help please feel free to PM me.

Thanks!!

Pilotslounge,

Although all the info you asked for is listed in this thread, and you should take the time to read it, it is Christmas, so here's a freebie:

Some recent hires have only had multi-turbine F/O time, and the post secondary requirement now only requires completion of schooling to university entrance level.
The people getting jobs are those that do well in the interview and psych test, not necessarily those with heavy jet command time, connections etc.
The pass rate is quite low. Numbers vary from 4 to 7 interviews per hire.
Many successful candidates get a call within a couple weeks of the interview for a medical and a job offer a week later. PFO's are usually within a month. However there have been many exceptions to both cases.

Read up on behavioral aviation interviews. The Air Canada interview follows the standard script of questions very closely.
Don't try to out-think the psych test.
Don't sweat too much about the cog test.

Good luck everyone, and happy New Year!

S.

Hi,

Just wondering what are my chances and where is my profile suitable for Canada.

I am a new immigrant with permanent resident status. I have been flying in south america DC-9s and ATR-42. My current license is CPL but I am taking my ATP conversion from the FAA and expect to be full ATP in Canada by the end of the month.

TT: 1560
TURBINE: 1350
PIC: 200

I see that they require more PIC time than what I currently have. Would this be an issue or is it something I may be able to get around with?

Your comments and thoughts are very much appreciated.

Good luck to all of you!

Just curious to know how you are gonna get your atpl by the end of the month. As far as i understand in canada you need 250hrs pic and 1500hrs tt, co-pilot time at half credits (im assuming you werent flying around in a dc9 left seat). So by my math your about 50hrs pic and 1240hrs right seat or 620hrs left seat short.

If you know of some loophole on how to get an atpl in canada with half the requirements then please do tell............

Best of luck

Sorry, can't be done. if someone's telling you different they're wrong. atpl minimum requirements are clearly spelled out by transport. If you don't meet them, you ain't getting one. The best you could get is a CPL with IATRA.
