An update got an email... all ground schools for the year are full. So I guess I did not get the call for July.

any updates on hiring? I would think with Air Canada hiring as much as they are that Jazz would have some openings. No pilot postings on their website :?:

I'm sure hiring will continue in the new year .. there will be a new position bid in January.

I would guess there will be hiring again in the new year. Plenty of people seem to be leaving...
Plus 2012 shows 10 pilots turning 65. That's the start of our 'retirement wave'.

Now if we could just get YHZ management and the BOD to wake up and get with the program.

Why if this rate of retirements continues, it will only be 15 years to a left seat block on the RJ!

That's guys turning 65- 'guaranteed retirements'. Plenty of others leaving before that age though.

Well yes and no, 2011 hasn't really seen plenty of retiring yet. So far this year Jazz has had 6 retirement's. It is true our boom is starting but it is going to be 10-20 guaranteed retirements per year for the next 5 years. Nothing like mainlines retirement boom.

Its really not that far off the mainline retirement .. Remember there are almost 4000 pilots at mainline and 1500 at Jazz. If 100 a year retire from mainline and 20 from Jazz that's roughly 1.5-2% a year from both pilot groups.

Atleast the movement is in the right direction .. for now.

Just to clarify the numbers. 3000 pilots at mainline with retirements between 120-160 per year for the next 7 years. Almost a third (33%) will be retired.... based on age 60 being the normal age.

There were 10 retirements at Jazz this year I believe. About 12 forecast for next year. I'm sure a few more will pull the plug early though.

Goodluck!

it would be nice if you could see in real time the number of vacancies...instead of waiting for the bid to come out.....

thats something else I was thinking...our vacation bidding is "real time". How awesome would it be if the position bid was like that. It would eliminate the wondering what you could hold and with how many below until it came out. You would actually see at the time of your bid...where you would fall on what equip at what base. Then when you submit your bid, you know RIGHT THEN what you have with how many below etc.....its clearly possible

I guess it'd be somewhat trickier as the position bid is all across Canada and vacation bid is separated in each base. No?

We're a little short on crews now but I can't see that being the case in April when the 757 flying is done....

the only real difference is the number of participants. It would take a few days but...would work. I'm not holding my breath though as i doubt this would ever happen.

Got the call two days ago for a sim eval, to be done next week. HR says that there's two confirmed groundschools for February. I've been in the pool since I did my interview back in April, so better late than never! Good luck to all those others in the pool!

3000 TT, 2200 F/O turbine, 1100 F/O Multi-turbine >12,500, 600 PIC.

Confirmed rumor:)

Sim evals are ongoing at this time, and the word from the management is that the hiring will definitively happen early next year due to attrition in this year and for the next year, as well retirements.

This of course is all true as long as Euro survives, Greece becomes new Switzerland, housing bubble doesn't burst here in Canada and man lands a probe on the mars.

Joking aside, things look promising for new candidates! Good luck;)
