Internet explorer for Windows 7

Post by High Flyin »

Anyone here know how I can get internet explorer for Windows 7? I visited the Microsoft website but there's never any option for Windows 7. Its all for XP or Vista.

PS. I can't use internet 9. Only explorer 7 or 8.

I have no idea.

But there's always Firefox.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Add in some Adblock:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... &advanced=

And some Flashblock:

And you have a pretty nice porn-surfing platform.

My $0.02.

IE is default on Windows since the XP days. Click on the round Windows logo (Start button) -> All Program and IE is like the top 5 programs on the menu. If you already can get on to the Internet using Windows 7, you are already using Internet Explorer 8. Why can't you use IE9? It's still in beta tho.

istp: I'm using Firefox now. This online application for school is not compatible with Firefox. Although, I may take a look at some of those adblocks  .

moocow: Ya...I sort of deleted it...It was giving me problems and I only use Firefox so I thought the hell with it. I'm in school right now and for our computers class, all my work is online. And it's only accessible through internet explorer. Oddly, the damn thing doesn't even work with IE9. Must be IE7/8.

Deleted it? Did you mean uninstall or delete the folder? If you actually deleted the folder manually, you just poo poo your system. IE IS NOT A STAND ALONE SOFTWARE, it's integrated into Windows. That might explain why IE9 wasn't working when you try to install it.

moocow: I uninstalled it and then deleted the folder.

albertdesalvo: Nothing. No results found. As soon as I type 'IEx' it displays no results found.

I could always just do my work at school I suppose on their computers. Would have liked to do it on my own time at home though...

Yeah, that happens on my box too. But if you continue typing and type in the full "iexplore", it should find the .exe and start the program.

Windows sucks dead donkey dicks, but we all have to use it. I agree with moocow, there's no way you can delete Internet Explorer; it is integrated with the Windows operating system and you can't get rid of it. If Windows still boots on your system, you can be damn sure Internet Explorer is still around somewhere.

Only suggestion I have at this point is go into "Control Panel" -> "Uninstall a Program" -> "Turn Window Feature On or Off" and hopefully you just have to check "Internet Explorer 8" back on and it will re-copy all the stuff into the correct places.

I just bought a HP laptop with OS64, and Genuine Windows 7. IE 8 was included.
In addition, my company qualifies for HUP, with which I downloaded Office Professional Plus 2010, for 9 USD! Pretty cool, but 635 mbite take a while to download on a dish...
IE 8 was free. :smt040

Ya I had IE8 when I first got my laptop too. Overall however, I'm very satisfied with my laptop. It runs great, battery is awesome. Just wish they could make IE 8 for windows 7.

My Dell laptop came with IE 8. It's works faster than any other version and I don't think IE 9 can do a better job..

I downloaded IE9, and like it. A little faster I think, new options, especially on the back button... Scroll is also faster. :smt040

Windows 7 was released with IE8. Internet Explorer 9 was released two weeks ago (March 14) so if your install is older than that, you probably have the public beta.

Now you can usually uninstall IE9 to revert back to IE8. It involves going to the Control Panel, Programs and Functionality (or something like it, my Windows is in French) and uninstalling from there.

"Add and Remove Windows Features" might enable you to uninstall and reinstall your IE8.

High Flyer: you say you "deleted the folder". Which one? The one in your start menu containing shortcuts? Or something in C:\Program Files\?

This is unfortunately true, at least for North America. In the European edition of Windows 7, IE is one of a number of browsers you can choose from when setting up the computer .... it is not integrated with the OS (thanks to the European Unions Anti-Trust lawsuit against MS).

The OP should be able to re-install it using the add/remove windows features.

Internet Explorer is pre-installed on Windows 7. If another user has removed Internet Explorer in favor of another Web browser, you can download and reinstall the program from the Microsoft Internet Explorer homepage
