Nouakchott is liveable if you have a house and guard, driver etc , same as in most other African countries. The ability to speak French is a BIG PLUS, you need it to get into the airport every flight and every day is different, meaning if you don't have a airport pass you need to hand in your passport and wait, and wait and wait before you get in.
But the operation should have a local man to do this for you, do they, be sure to ask.
