Re: Identify This Aircraft
bobm, is this a Great Lakes? Or a Pitts?

The legs...um nose gear leg should give this one away. There is only one nose gear door that looks like this one...

Re: Identify This Aircraft

Sexy and way more dangerous than Maverick ever was..........
The USAF ordered 116 "Hustlers" for the Strategic Air Command (SAC) between 1960 and 1970. B-58s set 19 world speed and altitude records and won 5 different aviation trophies. 26 destroyed in service accidents. Except 8, the rest were sold for scrap. Here is one of the 8 survivors in great shape and still looking like the deadliest nuclear strike aircraft ever built. "Calling Dr.Strangelove".

Re: Identify This Aircraft
Hey Doc...a version of the Canberra is my guess.
Re: Identify This Aircraft
Canberra - had a flight in a RAF one back in 84 or 85. The one shown is a DERA Canberra that was used to test missile guidance and control systems//the long noses were interchangeable depending on the test programme.

Those tilted heels, sorry, wheels are a good clue too for the Connie.JMACK wrote:

Re: Identify This Aircraft
Can you say "BUSINESS"? Check out the lines of this puppy. Non stop service to the Gulag......

And, while we're on the subject of business. Anyone know the bomb load on this beast?

Re: Identify This Aircraft
The bomb load of this was totally irrelevant because our boyz in the Voodoo 101ders and the genie rockets/genie Nukes would have stopped em cold over the pole!
Said with tongue in cheek!

Re: Identify This Aircraft
For appearance certainly, but you of all must have read what Col. Boyd had to say about swing-wing designs, and the B-1 in particular!Colonel Sanders wrote:Honorable mention to:

I have a weakness for smooth lines and seductive curves. It's a horrible character flaw, I know. For appearance certainly, but you of all must have read what Col. Boyd had to say about swing-wing designs, and the B-1 in particular!

Re: Identify This Aircraft
Top photo has a belly fuel tank - no, it's NOT a bomb -
which isn't in the second photo. Looks much better
without it, and probably faster.

Re: Identify This Aircraft
Agreed! Though I imagine with two beefy radials, the Tigercat's range is pretty limited without the external tank.Colonel Sanders wrote:Top photo has a belly fuel tank - no, it's NOT a bomb -

Re: Identify This Aircraft
Drop it on the right sparky or open flame target and it still won't be a bomb but you should get a nice flare up.Colonel Sanders wrote:Top photo has a belly fuel tank - no, it's NOT a bomb -

Re: Identify This Aircraft
Some sort of Grumman, similar lines to the Bearcat....
Re: Identify This Aircraft
Yup. It's one of Grumman's "cats". Funny how, when they took over the Yankee line, they still stuck to the "cat" theme with the Cheetah, Tiger etc.Maynard wrote:Some sort of Grumman, similar lines to the Bearcat....
Re: Identify This Aircraft
That plane is far sexier than a Great Lakes or Pitts could ever hope to be. It's a Bucker Jungmann. Guess that means the girl should be a blonde...
