One of my most memorable days in my flying career was the last air show I flew in in Europe.

When we were directed into our parking place for the weekend we were only two rows behind a dark blue Tiger Cat...the most beautiful fuc.ing airplane ever built.

I couldn't wait to meet the pilot and he was really old like me and friendly as hell.

The air display he put on was on the level of Bob Hoover, amazing pilot and super amazing airplane.

Before I die I would give both of my nuts to fly one.

If you can sell them for 2.5 mil, you could make that happen

Strange. We've met once. Out tastes in other things are probably vastly different (with the exception of sailboats of course) yet we both are in full agreement on the above statement. That pencil thin fuselage, with those two massive engines hanging from slender wings (R2800's I believe?) just make it look as sexy as a mid '60's XKE, or a Hinckley Bermuda 40!

I'll let someone else answer the first two because they are relatively easy...

The last one looks like a Howard 500 conversion of a Lockheed PV-1 Ventura http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_500

dunno about the Howard conversion, but it was a popular one, almost as popular as the On-mark B26 conversions. Continental Can used to have one of these at Malton.

G'day

C318 is a Curtiss JN-4 (Can) built for the Royal Flying Corps (Canada) by Canadian Aeroplanes Limited on Strachan Avenue in Toronto, Ontario. The R.F.C. would became the R.A.F.on the 1st of April, 1918.

The Canadian Air Force (not Royal until the 1st of April, 1924) retained 11 aircraft post-war. Ten were given G-CY registrations while the 11th aircraft was used for spares. The aircraft type was in Canadian service from the 7th of September, 1920 to the 15th of January, 1923.

Cheers...Chris

Correct except it was the DeHavilland Heron was used in the conversion. I remember seeing these flying around when I was a kid.

Someone once told me that the Grumman Tigercat was slower than the Mosquito despite having more-powerful engines...
