Pilots off sick are well within the normal range.

The weather in YUL was bad today. Perhaps Raitt can legislate that too.

There is no doubt there is a crew shortage but that is a result of planning. AC plans on under staffing and finishing up the month with over time. Their problem is everyone is so pissed off no one is doing over time.

Watch the end of the month implode. They are going to run out of crews all by themselves. Probably try to blame us though. In fact what you just posted maybe only the start of the blame game.

With the government bending the rules, can you really blame the employee from doing the same?

If that's indeed what happened, well so be it :) You have my support.

I know the weather was terrible in YUL, with a weird fog covering the city up to noon at least.

Although the conservatives were saying left and right in the house they had Canadian's support, the picture is far from what they were trying to paint. You have a lot of support across Canada.

Agreed. As long as it's not illegal to get sick. Since it's apparently illegal to strike...

Hopefully guys are refusing to do overtime. If you do overtime with all this back to work legislation you are on managements side! CR needs his 5 million dollar bonus you know.

When contacted by CBC News about Saturday's delays and cancellations, the minister's office said it was aware of the situation.

"These issues fall with Air Canada internally, and should Air Canada feel that these actions constitute an illegal strike, they can bring this matter to the Canadian Industrial Resolution Board," Raitt said in a statement.

Aren't ALL strikes illegal now because of her?

From an outsider looking in ... I understand the pilots, From the traveling publics point of view I understand when you spend large sums of money to travel and end up in airports and stranded. Its like no one wins in the situations.

BUT YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU BELEIVE IN.... for that you have my respect.

Why does Government always just seem to give themselves a raise and a huge pension and we hear about it AFTER THE FACT !!!!

Good luck in your fight. :smt014

It seems as though the only ones who care about the safety of the flying public are the pilots themselves. The way the AC and the Gov't are acting are definitely not in the interest of safety.

Support you guys 100%. This is an attack on all workers in Canada. Its ridiculous. Strange weather in YYZ there was a wicked inversion yesterday. About 500' off the deck it was over 20C. Sounds like chaos there today.

"While Air Canada supports the right of its employees to book off when they are unwell or otherwise unfit to work,"

When is Air Canada going to get this right? Everybody and their dog should know by now it isn't our "right" to book off when we are unfit, it is our "obligation". We have no choice. That also includes when we are so stressed and angry at the truly despicable way our government and employer are treating the people flying their airplanes that we are unacceptably distracted.

Come on people, do you really want somebody getting systematically shit on by a corporation and government clearly cooperating together to destroy their livelihood flying your airplane?

Why is this even a surprise?? Actually, that's a silly question on my behalf, media has to do their "job" just like everyone else does ...it's all part of the game.

Silly me

By the way...why are only YUL pilots "spearheading" this flu/stress season??

Somebody just did a comparison of book off numbers between this weekend and one year ago. They are practically identical.

To all the people that thought it would be a good idea to MAKE employee's work when there is a contract dispute, I say, you made your bed now sleep in it.

To all to those that are frustrated and angry, lets keep the anger focused at the people that deserve it. Dont fall into the trap of getting angry at some that have done some overtime, maybe they need the money. Dont harass people that have a different opinion, they are entitled to it.

For all you new hires, especially the ones on probation, this fight is not for you and you will have your chance, dont get caught up in the chatter, just put on your fresh clean uniform and be the best probie on the line. Management is looking for someone to fire, dont let it be you.

Captains, this is where we need to step up, we can effective, and we have to be smart. Its working.

It is way too late for being smart or stepping up or any of that union valor because you have already been out smarted by CR who has guided this process to arbitration. He has the government in his pocket and knows full well that the arbitration decision will benefit Air Canada. The arbitration will weigh heavily on the survival of Air Canada and the impact to the flying public.LLC will happen and there will be a vastly different Air Canada coming your way. Air Canada is sized for a monopoly market but no longer has a monopoly. Problem is that it did not change enough to become fit to compete against up and coming Westjet. The stretch marks of the Air Canada/Canadian Airlines merger remains resulting in a a big, fat, expensive, unprofitable and broke company.Blame who you want boys and girls, as a group and a company that has to compete in this market you have already lost.Senior guys will survive and the rest well.......you know what happens.

Another question is why the hell are any of you guys climbing above 310? A quick check on flightaware showed one or two flights in cruise down at 310, there but still most at 370 and 380...

Zip, you fail to realize that whether you agree or not with that union valor and even if you think that you have been outsmarted by CR, the pilots are still flying the airplanes and the mechanics are still signing-off the airplanes in the morning so that these guys (corporate pigs) can still get money out of their ATM machine AKA AirCanada. Don't you agree that if they are gonna win, at least you shouldn't surrender and make it easy for them? And I am not for doing anything illegal, but I think using the rules to their disadvantage might be a good idea at this time.

If AirCanada survives by bullying their employees, and all of that sponsored by the government, maybe they don't deserve to survive... who knows....If they would get their s%?& together from the top-down, maybe AC wouldn't be stuck in a rut as they are now.
