Re: Calls for upcming courses
When there is talk about calls going out for upcoming courses, does this mean that people that have already interviewed will get called or does this mean that initial calls will go out to people to interview for these courses?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Calls for upcming courses
When did the guys interview for the April course? I think I recall there were interview in January?
Re: Calls for upcming courses
Hi,
When we say calls are going out for the April course, that would be the official job offer for the course. These would be individuals that have interviewed and are in the pool.
Calls for interviews are ongoing.
I do believe the newest members to the pool started interviewing in January.
Cheers,
Dave.

Re: Calls for upcming courses
Thanks DaveP so is the next scheduled courses still in July, August, September?
Re: Calls for upcming courses
Hi,
Yes, that's the plan so far. There might be an additional course in October as well.
Cheers!

Re: Calls for upcming courses
Hey Dave,
Just wondering where I would fit into the matrix, 705 captain on atr42, 5000 hrs, 1400mpic, level d sim /fms with a college diploma.
Been actively applying for 3 yrs now, would love to make that final step.
Thanks for taking the time (on your vacation no less),
Cheers

Re: Calls for upcming courses
Hey onespeed and others, just curious why your questions couldn't wait until the 12th, It seems to me DaveP probably put the date of his return so that maybe he could have a break from work. I believe this is part work for Dave and maybe we as pilots should have some respect for boundaries. I could be wrong but judging by how Dave is on here, I don't think he'd say anything anyway.
Re: Calls for upcming courses
You potential West Jet pilots should realize the important information DaveP provides you on a regular basis. Don't burden him with your individual situations ; he is providing you with information no other airline provides. Just check red side to prove my point.
Re: Calls for upcming courses
No worries guys,
I wouldn't post if I didn't want to. I can only take so much beach time!
I like keeping everyone who is interested in WJ informed.
Today the Dash 8 is in the hanger visiting and the ATR is in tomorrow I believe. One of the office guys just emailed me the pic.
It's no 787 like AC had in the hanger, but looks pretty cool.
As for the individual situations, there has been a ton of stuff posted here in the past on the subject. You obviously score well with what you are doing, but it simply gets down to the point that there are lots out there with similar quals. When you are only picking 8 or 10 resumes every few weeks it really makes it tough getting to everyone. We do try and spread the love as much as we can. By this I mean taking some non internally recommended folks and guys that might only have one internal - to guys that have 5 internals. We also like to take ones where the sponsor hasn't recommended someone in a long time(if at all). Again, spread the love as much as we can.
Off for some zip lining now, we will see if there is a new cp posting at WJ in a couple days if I don't survive! Lol.
Take care,
Dave.

Re: Calls for upcming courses
to "onspeed"- have you been to yyc and gone for a walkabout there?
DaveP - kudo's for keeping it real.

Re: Calls for upcming courses
Thanks for the response Dave, I've found that contrary to popular opinion making each step in aviation becomes progressively more competitive. I'm glad to hear that WJ also chooses people who have no internal references.
I was out skiing a few years ago in Banff and did the walk through with Scott Wilson. A very impressive / modern facility for sure.

Re: Calls for upcming courses
Whats the deal with the hanger walk around? Do you need to know someone at WestJet to take you in or can you just show up? Is it still Wednesdays?
Re: Calls for upcming courses
The deal is, anyone can come and look around.
Having said that, it's best to come with someone you know(that works here) as a tour guide. I use to do the tours but it got to be too much.
It simply provides yourself with some due diligence on Westjet. You can check out operations, the sims, scheduling, pilot training etc. We want you to come here knowing all about the operation and what it offers. The other part of the equation is what can you offer?
Wednesdays are good days only because a lot of pilot recruiters are around.
People that show up with out an internal guide often don't get to meet any recruiters or management because we are busy with other commitments.
Hope that helps!
Dave.

Re: Calls for upcming courses
Thanks for the updates Dave,
I really hope WJ takes the Q400... She is an amazing machine!
Anyhow, thought I would ask how my experience/background
compares to the pool of pilots (to get me a peek into WJ)?
Am currently on sabatical from 10 years on the Q400 as a DEC; currently
flying as a Captain on the Dhc-6(300) on floats... Been away from
floats for a long time!! Its been great getting my sea legs back and feet
wet again!! In fact, I haven't had this much fun with an aircraft in years!!
Well, here it is:
10400 hours total time, 6100 hours Dash 8 PIC (100/300/Q400), 1100 PIC hours
on the Twin Otter (floats/wheels/skis)...2600 SIC Dhc-6 & Dash 8 (100/300). BSc.
Aeronautics, current MSc. Student. English/German fluency, Calgary Flames fan...
and former Bow River fly fisherman!! No internal reference... Have honoured each and
every contract and I am welcome back to each and every former employer... Never had an
internal recommend at any company I have ever worked for...Worked the ramp in South Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Sandspit before getting my first break.
I am free this coming June for travel to YYC!!
Best of luck with the new regional division, if you need a guy who knows the Q400...
Then feel free to drop me an email or PM!
Regards
The Bear

Re: Calls for upcming courses
DaveP,
Curious as to where the pilots are from on the next course for April? Thought maybe you wouldn't mind shedding some light on the next round of folks and the rough experience.
Thanks for the insight as always.
