Hey fellas!
we all know overnights and holding somewhere either for a couple houres or a full day can be boring. What books would help making the time go faster?

Last time I tried reading the CARs, my head nearly exploded.
Last thing I need when IFR, dealing with icing and all that other good stuff that we deal with on a day to day basis, is for my brain to be boiled and not in the game!

I suggest an Ipad with a good selection of Movies, TV shows, ebooks, and other interactive stuff. Lasts a good few hours, enough to pass a good whack of the time anyway.

Reading the CAR's is like trying to find your way through a maze blindfolded, by the time you read all the subsections you forget what the origional question was.

The CAR's are a monument to the ability of lawyers to turn a simple question into a puzzle so complex even other lawyers are unable to solve it.

However for T. C. the CAR's are priceless because any answer they can think of covers their asses.

Most anything by Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler or Stephen Coonts. The longer the layover the thicker the book you need.

Maybe not the CARs though...I don't always have Tylenol with me to treat the headache.

I just found a collection of all of Clive Cussler's work for my iPad. The adventures of Dirk Pitt are a great pulpy easy read when your just trying to kill time.

There is a series of books called The Bandy Papers by Donald Jack. It is the chronicles of Bartholemhew Bandy born in Ont. Each book, and there are 8 I believe, has "Me" in the title. It takes place during WW1 and commences through to the end of WW2 in the USSR. Very funny fiction with an aviation based theme.

I think Donald Jack won the Stephen Leacock award for Humour, but do not quote me. If he didn't, he should have.

The 'Reacher' series by Lee Child has had a lot of reading around our tankerbase over the last two summers.

George Macdonald Fraser's 'Flashman' series is a good (albeit mindless time-waster) read...

Well judging by what I am am reading in some of the other threads .... Anything to do with financial planning, sqeezing a nickel into a dime type books. Read about $$$$ and saving taxes .... The Wealthy Barber ... read anything that you can learn from that you can use later .... because your government is out to make sure you do not retire wealthy. Anything buy Warren Buffet might be good, he's awesome and very rich ... Stock picking for dummies or financial planning for dummies ... in paper backs of course ...

Yes, and after ten minutes I wanted to slit my wrists. Besides the Reacher series, there's the Prey series of novels by John Sandford, and the Virgil Flowers series by the same author. Other series are the Spenser novels by the late Robert B. Parker, and the Heironymous Bosch and Mickey Haller books by Michael Connelly.

ahahaha......Thanks for the advice!

One ebook is the best investment I did.
And like 200hr wonder, I'm right into those Clive Clusser novels (not as deep as Tom Clancy though..)

I was recently introduced to "Tucker Max" by a mate, makes for a good laugh. Ideal for those places you don't really want to hold / be banished to for any period of time.

There are always, for those in a philosophical frame of mind, books by Antoine de St. Exupery, Ernest K.Gann, or Richard Bach(his early books). All are books about aviation in earlier days.
