It's amazing how close they got the two solid rocket boosters to each on other on water impact.

It said in the video that it was, apparently just amplified.

I discovered the video embedded on a news website. There, they claimed it was actual, real-time sound, but mixed and amplified a bit for the "surround" experience. Also the footage is a montage from two flights, but the counter running in the top corner is correct, and the altitudes displayed are deduced based on elapsed time and flight profile.
Just to set the record straight, I find this video a great deal more than "mildly interesting". I love the Space Shuttle.
