Congratulations Seneca, and good luck to all of their students! While I'm happy this wasn't in place when I was there (I may have never ended up the floater I am today), this is great news for students in the program, and looking for the program!Toronto, April 18, 2012 – Third-year Seneca Bachelor of Aviation Technology students will be eligible for the Jazz cadet program that includes direct entry into the airline’s hiring pool.
All qualified third-year students will be offered an interview with Jazz and successful candidates will become Jazz/Seneca cadets in their fourth year. As they maintain the required academic and flight line achievement throughout their fourth year, upon graduation and successful completion of Jazz Aviation LP’s standardized tests and evaluations, they will be entered into the Jazz hiring pool.

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
Did Jazz wake up to the fact, that given the movement expected in the very near future, they are not a very attractive "goal", if you will, for the pilots coming off smaller turbo prop jobs to aim for? Pilots with some "time" are targeting WJ, Big Red, and off shore opportunities? I'll bet there will be some really hefty "bonds" in effect to keep these fish in the pools?
It'll also give Seneca grads another reason to think their excrement smells like roses.

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
Bond them? Why? Should they get hired to right seat on a Dash 8 and decide to leave.. where are they going to go next?

Probably someplace that they can get the hours for their ATPL.where are they going to go next?
Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
so does this mean that in the very near future jazz will have a 5kt crosswind limitation all aircraft?

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
I would be more worried about them not being allowed to fly at night unless it's VFR:

Feel bad for the guys slugging it out on PC12s/King Airs/1900s etc.. up north that were looking to get on with Jazz. Not going to make it any easier for them now.
Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
Considering the left seat experience at Jazz I wouldn't be too worried. BTW no pilot at Jazz will ever be bonded.

Yes, as long as they stay away from the 10,000 foot runway at CYYBI wouldn't be too worried

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
That's good news. No pilot anywhere should ever be bonded!teacher wrote: no pilot at Jazz will ever be bonded.
BTW, when this happens I'll have taken my last flight on Jazz.

Doc .. Just curious .. what's the attraction to Porter over Jazz? .. Bond? Lower pay? Crappy working conditions?

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
Does Seneca still teach their students to leave the gear down on the Barons when they are doing circuits?
Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
I pulled Porter out of the equation. Bonds, you know. I think the YYB remark might have been "tongue in cheek"? Guess I'm not a huge fan of Seneca being the only source Jazz is going to use for this? It's saying every other "college" is somehow inferior to Seneca, and what a JOKE that is. Other than that, I'm welcome to my opinion.....even if you don't happen to share it.Localizer wrote:Wow .. your a classy guy.Colonel Sanders wrote:Yes, as long as they stay away from the 10,000 foot runway at CYYB

I've actually had TWO Seneca grads show up to an interview wearing their AFT leather jackets. Really. Personally sent them both PFO letters.

I've always stayed out of these discussions, but seriously, why must you be so miserable? Have you had that many negative experiences with Seneca students that you must take every opportunity to bash them? Do all Seneca students really have some kind of superiority complex and are below average pilots?Cat Driver wrote:Does Seneca still teach their students to leave the gear down on the Barons when they are doing circuits?

Yes, with a grasp of both grammar and the facts.your [sic] a classy guy
Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
They took the Bonanzas away because they couldn't keep them right side up. How will they remember the gear on a Baron if they don't just leave it down?Cat Driver wrote:Does Seneca still teach their students to leave the gear down on the Barons when they are doing circuits?

Isn't the US going to a minimum of 1500 hrs for First Officers for airlines? I wonder if Canada will follow suit.
Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
Are they talking scheduled airlines? Governed by aircraft size? Jets only? I think a minimum of 1500 hours for the guy in the right seat with your family and loved ones on board is pretty reasonable? Perhaps I'm a little old school, but I will not board even a Dash 8 on a scheduled airline, if I know the guy in the right seat can't even qualify for an ATPL.Inverted2 wrote:Isn't the US going to a minimum of 1500 hrs for First Officers for airlines? I can see that happening.
I watched a Seneca grad a couple years ago land a 182 on a 3500 foot grass runway. He stopped the plane in the ditch at the end. After touching down 500 feet from the start of the runway.

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
Isn't this old news, or am I missing something here? I thought Jazz has been doing this since 2006 or something. I know someone recently hired at Jazz right out of a flight college, however, it wasn't Seneca.

I'll be looking elsewhere also.Doc wrote:That's good news. No pilot anywhere should ever be bonded!teacher wrote: no pilot at Jazz will ever be bonded.

Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
I feel bad for the Captains who have to fly with a 300 hour pilot in the right seat. I'm pretty sure sleep inertia won't be an issue on Jazz aircraft!
Re: Seneca signs cadet program with Jazz
As a Seneca Grad, I find it humorous to see the hate on here about the school and it's program. It's not nearly as terrible as most people out here would lead you to believe.
I for one think it's great that Seneca and Jazz have teamed up - it seems to work pretty well overseas - and are all you naysayers honestly going to say you wouldn't jump at the opportunity to go straight to a 705 operation out of school if you had the chance? I know I personally wouldn't, but that's because it is not the type of job I want (be it Jazz, WJ, Porter, etc...).
So congratulations to Seneca and Jazz! I have no issues getting on any aircraft flown by Seneca grads, past, present, or future.
