After the medical?
Just wondering what the longest you've heard of having to wait after doing a medical to get a call for a course? Also would they notify me if I didn't pass the medical?
I did my medical more than 6 weeks ago, references were called but haven't heard anything. The doc in YYZ said that everything looked good but he sends the file to YUL.
Should I contact them or just continue waiting?
Thanks for any insight.

I would think that the doctor who did your medical would be legally obligated to tell you if they found anything serious.

Call and inquire why the PFO after medical. Perhaps go and get a complete physical and call with a question mark on why you failed in their eyes if your current doctor thinks you're healthy.
Pursue it and please do post if you end up getting any answers!
Cheers

Air Canada will often call your references a second time, usually after your medical. While a candidate's current employer may have given an initial good reference, sometimes they change their mind when called back and give a poor recommendation. I was told that some candidates turn into real idiots towards their current employer when they think they are being hired at Air Canada. That's why the late PFO letter in some cases.
I'm not implying that this is what happened to anyone on this forum, it's just what I was told a few years ago.

Re: After the medical?
I was under the impression of reading somewhere on the labour code that no one may provide a negative reference to impede the advancement of a person's career progression and that it was considered illegal? I remember it talking about how people asked to be references should either accept and provide a positive reference, or deny because of the intentions of giving out a negative reference. The Raven wrote:Air Canada will often call your references a second time, usually after your medical. Might be something worth looking into - now turning into an idiot because you are awaiting an A/C uniform is simply stupid. Is it worth becoming an idiot over living on kraft dinner for the next few years?
In all seriousness though, I didn't know that PFO's are handed out over references getting a second call.
Re: After the medical?
Some employers resent those who better themselves by leaving for a better job. Thus, they will never give a good reference for someone leaving. Perhaps they weren't good enough to get that job themselves, or consider someone who leaves disloyal.
An employer with more character would be glad to see someone succeed.

I have heard that all the references are doing now, when called, is confirming that you actually did work for them and nothing more, to protect themselves from possible litigation.
Re: After the medical?
Really? That kind of beats the purpose of a reference check though. I can see how that can go especially if coupled up with this quotesidestick stirrer wrote:I have heard that all the references are doing now, when called, is confirming that you actually did work for them and nothing more, to protect themselves from possible litigation.
Air Canada calls Company X for the first time.I was told that some candidates turn into real idiots towards their current employer when they think they are being hired at Air Canada
Company X : "Hello"
AC : Hi May I speak to Mr. Berry
Company X : "Hold on as I transfer your call."
Mr.B : Hello Mr. Berry speaking
AC : Hi Mr. Berry, This is Dingle Johnson calling from AC, I just want to confirm that Lola Babilian works at your company with approximately 3500 hours.
Mr. B : That is correct, may I ask why you are asking
AC : We are doing a reference check
Mr. B: I see
AC : Thanks for your cooperation, have a good day.
Mr. B : click.
Mr. B : LOLA!!!!!!!!!!!, in my office!
Lola : Yes Mr. Berry?
Mr. B: LOLA!!!!!!! I just got a call from AC, have you been interviewing there behind my back?!?!??!? I thought you were a lifer
Lola: So sorry Mr. B, I'm so sorry for doing that, Please don't fire me.
Mr. B : I'll leave you alone, but that is totally uncool.
Lola goes in for Medical
AC Calls Mr. B
AC : Mr .B this is Fakhad Dokhlomzerti calling to confirm Lola works at Company X with 3500 hours
Mr B : Yes, and is a push over.
AC : Oh thanks for the feedback
AC Assumes Lola has turned into idiot = sends out PFO.
Ok, my bed time story is over. I'm expecting a lot of WTF responses. I'm just making a satire.
