Interview Attire
After reading the Seneca thread, I'm curious to hear what people think appropriate attire for interviews is. Most schools teach stricly business formal, but this obviously isn't always the case.
For Air Canada, Westjet, corporate, etc. shirt and tie is obviously the way to go, but what about fire patrol, or northern ontario ho-driver, or night cargo?
I've heard rumours of pilots not being considerd for jobs because they were dressed too formally and this was interpreted as attitude or ego.
So let's hear it, what's your opinion?

I would ask around what the company wants to see.
I have worn a suit for a king air job, also jeans and a T-shirt for another King air job. For Air Ontario I wore a suit (the CP was wearing the same one).
Personally, from this point on anyway, it will be suits. For a dock hand - jeans and a ball cap.
Cheers.

A good rule of thumb that was passed on to me is to take a look at the way the company has their pilots dress and match it. If they're in the full airline garb, where a suit in the winter and a shirt and tie in the summer. If they wear shirts and ties, match it. If it's jeans and t-shirts, you should feel comfortable wearing jeans and a t-shirt to the interview. The pilot dress code normally accurately reflects management's position on the issue.

Heard from a couple of DFOs/CPs: If you are interviewing for a pilot position, find out what the pilots at that operation wear while they are flying and dress one step up from that. Ex. If they are wearing a white shirt & tie, wear the same plus a jacket. If they are wearing flight suits, wear something like khakis and a collared t-shirt.

When I was a CP and interviewing a pilot, if he showed up in a suit for a cargo job, my first impression was "Here is a guy who is serious about getting a job"
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

When my son was in training for his Commercial license he wore a shirt, tie and black pants. I would assume that their is a reason for this. Having been in the same job for 25 years I have had little reason to go to interviews but I can't see it as a problem to go looking professional, Commercial Pilot is a professional job, one should dress appropriately for an interview.

Whatever you do, don't dress as eterepekio's picture suggests. The prospective employer may get so scared, initially thinking that you're from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency . . . the first impression is the most important one.

One word......LEATHER. CP's love it when I show up in my really tight black leather mini skirt. I always wear fishnets with little rips in them. It gives me that really trampy look the guys are looking for. And a lizard (fake lizard, you big silly!) tank top. And gobs of eye shadow...and my black wig (a little goth, dont you know) hanging all the way down to my hot little butt!! I spend a lot of time at the interview bending over to display my, um, er, assets, like the tops of my stockings, and my garter belt. After all that, they are pretty much forced to hire me, because, well I look so hot! And if they dont I go after them for discrimination..Hehehe.
YMMV!!
