Skyward aviation grounded for good

CBC News
RANKIN INLET, Nunavut - Skyward Aviation won't be returning to the skies above Nunavut– or anywhere else in Canada– anytime soon.
A message on Skyward's website indicates the company has gone bankrupt after 18 years in service. It says bankruptcy protection had not been extended for the company, and it was ceasing operations on April 1.

Skyward used to provide medevac service in the Kivalliq region.
It lost the contract in 2003, but continued to offer charters out of Rankin Inlet.
Skyward's operating certificate was pulled by Transport Canada in February.
The federal regulator said it had concerns over the company's ability to maintain operational control and records.
Perimeter Aviation has bought Skyward's hangar in Rankin Inlet as well as its non-aircraft assets in Thompson, Manitoba.
It has also purchased the right to use Skyward's trade name.

I think that transport made it pretty clear that the old owners can't work in aviation. Least for awhile anyways. PAG should not be scared of a name it sounds like they have northern Mb in the palm of their hands. I guess we will see if they get too big too fast, like others have done in the past. And gone and screwed it all up with debt. And moving to the artic, to go up against Kivalliq should be interesting to watch!!!

Suprisingly not, u see, with the demise of a carrier that had 25 or so various ariplanes, its customer base decided to vanish along with the airline, other carriers are suffering too because of this, its amazing how people are loyal to a company even if it doesn't exist anymore...Brew wrote:Now that Skyward is gone for good, is there an overflow of business for the smaller charter companies in Winnipeg?
In case u didn't realize, I am being sarcastic...
What r u a complete friggin moron?
Actually, I'm not a moron but after reading what I wrote, I will agree it sounded pretty retarded! I tried to ask a question in order to get feedback about specific small companies in that area. I basically wanted to know if there were small co. in the process of acquiring more a/c (types?) to meet the demands, etc. and the names of such companies other than Perimeter (which seems to be the only one being mentioned). Anyway, I should really reread what I write before posting.

or you could just attempt to answer the question......
I believe FNT is adding a King Air 200 Medevac and Beaver Air in The Pas was looking for some drivers, but I'm not sure if they've been adding planes.
Apparently Perimeter's flights in YTH are leaving almost full everytime and they've also got Bearskin doing flights for them. I imagine they are still attempting to add more planes and expand more.
I had heard a rumour that Calm Air was looking to get another Saab.
I haven't heard anything about Keewatin expanding. They have carved out their niche in Nunavut. (that doesn't mean they are not though).
Hope this helps. Mind you, I'm (thankfully!) no longer in MB and this is all just "heard it from a friend" type info so take it for what it's worth.
Cheers
