Day off in Red Lake

Post by up_and_locked »

Hi everyone, quick question.

What is there to do in Red Lake on your time off? And unfortunately "going to the Howey for a beer" isn't a valid answer because I'm only 18 :D. Anyone find something cool to do around the lake or in the area?

Thanks guys!

Fishing? Get a friend to buy you beer, and drink at your house? Play with your wii-wii? Drive to Kenora or Dryden to see the city lights? Ask around and see if you can get a tour down the mine (there are still mines in Red Lake, no?) Impress your boss and work a day off? Laundry? Surf the internet? Get a job as a substitute teacher at the local high school?

If you can't go for a beer at the Howey go for many beers at the Balmer!

Spend a few hours at the museum. Some good aviation and Red Lake history items there. Fairly interesting film to watch also.

• Fishing at east bay

• Fishing at Chukuni Bridge

• Fishing at Pipestone Bay

• Museum

• Go visit Al Mac Neil at the old folks home and ask about the old
Days of Aviation he will provide the beer

• Go visit Norm Wright at MacKenzie Islans and ask about the old
Days of Aviation he will provide the beer

• Go visits grand kids and ask about the old
Days of Aviation they will probably not provide the beer, but they can point out the beer store from the house. Legal height for drinking in Red Lake is 3 feet. You should be okay.

Good ideas, especially the museum one I hadn't even thought of that.

And don't you worry boys, I've got tons of beers in my room that I use regularly!
I swear I saw something in the CARS that said dockhands had to be at least hungover if they weren't drunk!

The old ANO's used to state no drinking within eight feet of the aircraft. I don't know how the CARS adress that.

I do believe they've been slightly revised.

No smoking within eight ( 8 ) hours of flying and no drinking within fifty ( 50 ) feet of the aircraft.

First off, welcome to Red Lake! There's lots to do here in Red. Like many others suggested fishing is a big one. If you don't already own a rod I'd suggest going out to buy one. Like WJ733 suggested, go check out the other operators. Introduce yourself, tell them who your working for and you wanna check out their machines. I'd be surprised if they said no. I'd also a great way to meet other pilots and network. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Do you have your PPL/CPL, access to a boat or remote cabin, a car?
