Of all the flight schools in the Southern Ontario region and getting that first job instructing does anybody have some light to shed on schools like Spectrum in Burlington, Kitchener, Brantford, etc and their general feel on working at some of these schools.

I guess I am asking this to fellow instructors and how they would rate the school that they work at, or if you are lucky to get one of the instructing jobs would be to grab it and get the experience and not be so picky at which flight school it is.

thanks

If you are offered a job that pays, take it. Once you have some experience you can then start to be more discerning about your employment options. The only caveat is safety. If you're pushed to do anything (or fly anything) unsafe or illegal it's time to bail.

I'd say Seneca at YKZ (for now) is pretty good. Having been a student there and some of my colleagues ending up to be instructors, it's a pretty good gig.

You get paid per slots, pretty decent per slot. Which is like a 4 or 5 hour booking and usually do 2 a day for around 4 or 6 days a week. Get paid even if you don't fly, as long as it's not cancelled ahead of time, which is usually not the case.

I'm not too sure on how accurate those are but I can find out for sure. It's only from what I've heard in the past when I was there.
However, they do mostly hire Seneca grads, which is a damn shame...I think it would benefit to have some outside influence who have gone through other ways of doing things than remaining with the same thing over and over.
