This seems to be in contrast with the usual saying that WestJet treats their employees really well. Care to elaborate? Does Tech Ops really need a union or do a couple of lazy mechanics need a union? Not that I am against unions, far from it in fact, but this seems like trolling compared to what we usually hear.
No place is perfect.

Well... a one-off, anonymous post on a public forum is sure to rally the troops and get you that union you deserve. Better yet, I'm sure it will win over the hearts & minds of our management team and make them come to their senses.

If you truly have concerns, there are far better avenues by which to voice them. More to the point, there are avenues available which may get your concerns addressed by our management before it gets to the point where you feel the need to scream for a union.

so, i'm a bit confused. how would a union help? i see what the union has done to/for the ames at Aveos and it doesn't seem like they've really helped the guys. what about Jazz? with the heavy maintenance being looked at and likely going to be contracted, what is their union doing for them? from an outsider looking in, it looks like all of the union aircraft maintenance jobs in Canada are slowly going away and KFL, Cascade and Premier will be the only ones in business.

Yeah, we need a union...Bored are we? If you are referring to the regional airline well seeing how its still a long way off from anything being done you can put your picket sign away and take a breath... :goodman: :goodman:

Nice Westjetter attitudes. Someone makes a comment and the lynch mob mentality is in full force. Way to keep your options and mind open!

lol. Funny.

Keeping an open mind about a union? Please...... Wanna ruin a good thing, thats how you do it.

As for being forced to take a pay cut? Nobody knows anything about where/when/how this regional thing is going to get off the ground for one, so how you've come to the conclusion that guys are going to be forced to take a pay cut and that a union is the only answer to the unfair, predatory business practices that Westjet uses on its own employees is beyond me. Take a breath, calm down. :goodman:

This thread will be fun to re-visit in 12-18 months after you have had a division of pilots/maintenance, division of pay scales, division of aircraft types and division of work conditions... but hey, your management would never do to you what every other airline management has done to its employees. Suerte amigos.

Maybe.

Of course having a union would prevent all that.

JJJ
FU capitalist Westjetter!

I will submit the request to my union social activities coordinator and have the request fast-tracked through the MEC. I should have an answer for you by August...

I think AvCanada needs a union too. I nominate JJJ for Supreme-Teal-Leader.

When I was in a union...the things that my union fought for
1-right for production employees to smoke dope during lunch on company property
2-problem employee to be put on long term disabilty so no one has to deal with them...would not let the company fire them
3-10 week strike that cost me 20% of my yearly salary. They were very prod of the fact that they got approx 10% (3% 3% 4%) wage increase over 3 years. I think I almost broke even over the term of the contract
4-A strike vote where the union reps were threatening vilolence if the vote was not for strike and the strike vote was not secret ballot (vote for strike or we will talk in alley was the feeling)

Unions have their spot in some companies but once they move from working conditions/safety to money then they start sinking.

The funniest thing I saw, was when the union office staff wanted to join a union and the union executive was confused about why the staff would want a union. Unions are good as long as my employees dont want one. If you unionized then the members dues will have to go up.

And others forget this isn't 1930 anymore.

Unions had their place, and in some places still do. These days each company gets the union they deserve and as kevind pointed out above, a lot of unions are no better than some corporations.
