Here's a couple of links to EIA planning of "Port Alberta". The parallel runway has been in the planning for quite some time. (note the date on the drawing) The Airside Development on the north side of the existing 12-30 is well underway, STARS is the first hangar up at the south-east end. Interesting that they're looking at diverting highway 19 and range road 254.loopy wrote:

Interesting. Not a bad concept, but a properly supported and viable airport in the downtown is an assett the city and province both failed to recognize. The best spin campaign won. I do like the idea of a 3rd runway at YEG, but they already had something great and pissed it away. I hope they develope something new at YEG sooner than later. Otherwise some businesses will leave the region.
BTW, I think STARS (gag) is just the first major tenant in that hangar. They had "naming rights, like a major sports venue. I wonder if they've intstalled their own TV camera's so they can just feed directly to the networks when they turn a rotor. Save waiting for the network crews to drive out.
