Twelve O-Clock High

I want to see "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo"

Not a flying movie, but I like the airplane in Mad Max: Beyond Thunder Dome. It's an Australian spray plane called a "Truckie"

There are quite a few aviation movies I like, but my favourites are Always, Memphis Belle, and The Final Countdown. The last is a really neat movie, the premise being that the USS Nimitz accidentally goes back in time to the day before the attack on Pearl Harbour. I won't give any more away, other than the fact that it contains a great dogfight sequence between a pair of F-14 Tomcats and a pair of Zeroes. 8)

Is this true? I'd never heard it...unfortunate if it is.

I forget the movie, but TC has shown us a video about 3 million times of a beaver on floats crashing on a lake in BC...not sure what movie, I have only seen the clip...if anyone knows the movie this is from, let me know.

I think that movie was "The Edge". When ever a passenger asks "What movie is playing on this flight?" I tell them it's The Edge, you know the one where the plane crashes and everyone gets eaten by a bear. That shuts them up.

Tora Tora Tora

The original Pearl Harbour movie. Made with actual airplanes flying, not computer generated stuff

Midway

Or how the US Navy was lucky in finding the Japeneese fleet and sinking their flat top.

12 o'clock high

Good old black and white movie. Made in the late 40s this movie tells the story of a US Army Air Corp B17 squadron' fight over Germany. Best leadership lesson one can take.

And finally Cloud Dancers

Made in the 70s, it is the story of a couple of aerobatic pilot engaged in a pissing contest. The story is typical US movie stuff, but the images are great. Filmed using Pitts special flown by the now defunct "Eagle Aerobatic Team" (Gene Soucy, Charlie Hillard and Tom "EAA" Poberezny) who thrilled airshow audiances for 25 years.

Cheers,

D

The movie is called the "Mother load" The lake was lake lovely water just out side of Squwamish BC I think Kim Basinger was in it as well. The crash was not ment to happen the bever pilot was a low time guy and was just doing a test run and they had the crew there so they just got it on film so the made it work into the movie. Hope that is the one you are talking about. The Edge was filmed in alberta and the plane was on cables for that one.

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Iron Eagle.

Ahhh, the quality acting. The father, upon climbing into the rescuing F-16, utters such show-stopping dialog as:

What are you doing here… Doug? Nice flying… Doug.

He must have gone to the “William Shattner School of Pause Dialog Acting.”

And not long before that Art flipped a Beaver on floats during the filming of "Mother Lode". It was supposed to look like a hairy landing by Scholl, unfortunately for him it got a little too hairy and they flipped it on glassy water. They then used shots of the crash and numerous of the plane upside down under water for the film even though it was not in the original script. . Heston was in it, you might find it in a library..

ps. I also believe it was in the filming of the same movie, they leased a 206 from some guy in YVR, then proceeded to go out and do barrel roles in it and showed it in the film. The owner was some pissed when he saw the movie :smt044

The convenient aspect was that after they swam out of the Beaver, the pilot acquired a 'copy' of the film/tape to show the TSB on the monday morning..."hello I've just had an accident-watch this"apparently he had a slight yaw on touchdown a dug in a float

Sorry Swede I did not know it was art in that movie as well. So simmer down a little. I was told it was a guy with very little float time. I have been to that lake with a guy in a DHC2T and it looked REAL short and it is real high lake and is one way in one way out. We did not land. So for a standard beaver it would have been a hard trip.

Firefox dialogue sample;

Nameless European character actor: "Gant, can you fly dat plane, reelly fly it".

Clint: "Ya, I can fly it. I'm the best there is."

That, ladies and gentlemen, is writing.

By the way, in my very unhumble (sic) opinion, most of the movies named above are garbage. Especially bad is Memphis Belle ("Lets fly in a circle around this heavily defended target because I'm afraid we're aiming a little too close to that hospital"...bullshit).

How about 'Piece of Cake'? Its a Brit made for tv mini-series based on the book and is quite good.
