Shareholder meeting
Air Canada shareholder meeting is soon and ACPA representatives will be there. Sure would be an opportune time to get the shareholders to see the light and give the current management team the boot. We need management with a long term focus on building a sustainable airline. Not short term, myopic management who are focused on the next quarter for their bonus cheques and no further. They should do what Ackman did with Canadian Pacific, except for the opposite reasons. The shareholders (read: sheep) can be persuaded if someone with enough ideas and charisma steps up. Overall, I think ACPA would have been better off selling the shares after the vesting period and then shorting Air Canada's stock and using the proceeds to get a kick ass negotiating team.
Any thoughts?

Doesn't matter what anybody thinks, the meeting is over and the big wigs win yet again

It's pretty obvious who owns most of the shares...

Re: Shareholder meeting
What an absolute disgusting shame. The executive compensation in North America has become disgraceful. The only time a senior manager (CEO, CFO, etc.) should get a bonus is if the company is making a profit and they show multiple years of successful returns to stakeholders (ie: employees, shareholders, etc.)

I guess you guys don't get it, he's doing what he was brought in to do, bust the unions.
I'd say he's earning his bonus quite well, doesn't make it right, but they do call him the smiling knife, don't they?

I don't care what his job is, his existence at Air Canada hasn't benefited anyone except upper management.mbav8r wrote:I guess you guys don't get it, he's doing what he was brought in to do, bust the unions.

Therein lies the problem at many companies these days; executives are there to try and cut costs to profitability.mbav8r wrote:I guess you guys don't get it, he's doing what he was brought in to do, bust the unions.

How about building and growing a vibrant, viable company that returns value to all. Shouldn't that be the goal.

Good lord man! .. I hope you don't think he's there to benefit you - the employee! Do you?CanadianEh wrote:I don't care what his job is, his existence at Air Canada hasn't benefited anyone except upper management.
If he was there for your benefit we wouldn't need unions.

Re: Shareholder meeting
Well said RB211.
The quote I came across that resonated with me was that "Air Canada management seems to know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing"

Re: Shareholder meeting
Cost affect bottom line .. bottom line determines bonus/stock payouts. Value is nothing more then a feel good mechanism used to boost employee moral when the bottom line is being affected. In this case .. they cancel one another out until a contract is in place .. then "value" will rain down on you like sunshine in the form of stupid advertisements, like the one in the Globe and Mail prior to negotiations. Didn't you feel valued after that little doozy?CanadianEh wrote:"Air Canada management seems to know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing"
