Flight school and rental around Halifax
I searched the forum and it seem most of the info is out of date. I might me moving to Halifax for work and once I get enough money I want to get back into the air. I heard the airport west of Halifax is about to be closed and relocated. Is the only GA airport left the one north of Halifax International?

I'm pretty sure they were just doing a study about relocating waterville... I don't think any announcement has been made yet. I would expect Waterville will stay open for awhile yet!
In any case, Debert is awesome anyhow.

I've used Debert in the past for renting, the staff there is great!
Re: Flight school and rental around Halifax
Is Truro Flying Club the only outfit operating out of Debert? Both Waterville and Debert is 1.5 hour away from downtown Halifax so I'm interested in the fleet condition and rental terms. Also, do COPA have group insurance for renter only?
Re: Flight school and rental around Halifax
Can your average schmuck rent a plane out of Debert or are they for flight training only ? I've been to the website but I still can't tell.

Yeah their website is not great. But you'll understand why if you go check out the club. They're like a good ol' flying club from the past, interested in the recreation of flying and not obsessed with pinching pennies and turning huge profits. You can certainly go there just to rent an airplane (a club checkout is probably req'd first though). As previously mentionned, the staff are great.

TFC is the only game in town at Debert but a good one. To add to what slappy says, it's a relaxed atmosphere with pilots chatting in the lounge and renters & owners coming & going. Myself, I finished off my license there last year. http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/tfc/Slappy the Squirrel wrote:Yeah their website is not great. But you'll understand why if you go check out the club. They have two newish steam gauge & injected 172S's and another older 172N, I'd say all get plenty of use. I believe rental requires a check out ride with an instructor.
In my opinion they are well cared for, the same AME who cares for them looks after our private A/C and we're happy with his work.
WRT renters insurance I believe the latest version of COPA's wings policy has a renters option.
Can't tell you much about GFC at Watervile except they have been around forever and I don't think the fleet is as new as TFC's. http://www.flygfc.com/home.asp
