CAR's Exam HELP!!
Does anyone have any tips about writting the CAR's exam, also what books did you use to study and which ones did you use in school. I have the CAR's for the AME but it is not up to date. I am having trouble passing. I didn't have any problem in school but now I am. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
How far out of date are you talking? First edition? You might want to buy the new one, it's only 40 bucks...
Otherwise, do the exams in the back until you can do them and pass with 90-100% every time.
If you really, really can't do it, Stevenson Aviation has a refresher course (I hope it's still offered). It's taught by the author of the study book, Bill Fraser I think. I know a few guys who have gone to it, and they all said they really had their eyes opened on that course.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
I have the sixth edition of the book. The tests in the back aren't that close to the real thing, been getting 90% or higher on them. I was wondering what books other schools are using. Thanks for the help.

There is another book I have seen called Aviation Regulations Simplified, but from what I have seen and heard, it makes reading the CAR's on the web look appealing! I don't know of any other books though... I don't know where to get that book or who wrote it, sorry.

CARs for the AME (7th edition): http://carsfortheame.com/studyguides.html
Aircraft Regulations Simplified: http://www.dueckaviation.com/main.htm
Both offer their own book and additional CARs training as well.
I find the Simplified book to be more background type information of why the regs are the way they are, rather than nitty gritty details of what the regs actually are. Kind of an 'English' translation of CARs, but it's somtimes difficult to make the connection between 'English' CARs and 'Legalese' CARs.
Other than that, I can't help much. The CARs for the AME book worked fine for me many years ago (maybe the book's format has changed?), study hard, and actually know the regs, don't just memorize them.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
Go to Transport and ask for document #TP 3043, Study and Reference guide for AME's.
CARS 566.03 Paragraph 5 says so.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
If you can answer every question in the back of the cars for the ame book 100% you should at least be able to 80% on your actual cars exam...the questions arn't identical to the exam but pretty damn close..

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
I have that book, its thicker than the actual CARs and filled with fluff. As is the author. If the original poster wants it, its yours, I can send it collect on the greyhound or send it however u like as long as you pay the shipping. It may or may not be of any use to you but your current approach doesnt seem to be working for you. Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
Howdy
I successfully wrote my CARs exam to get my M2 about a month ago now. We had a week of CARs back at B.C.I.T. back about three years ago, and I did skim through some of the actual CARs online. However in the weeks leading up to my exam I spent about 30 ish minutes each day (in 5-10 minute chunks while on the can, during coffee breaks etc.) studying almost nothing but CARs for the AME. I had the latest edition at home and an older one, I think fifth edition, kicking around at work.
By the end I could consistently get ~95% on the practice exams in the back of each, and on the real exam I walked out with a 78%. There were several questions that I didn't recall ever seeing in the book, but there were also several questions that were almost word for word out of the book. Overall I found the book quite helpfull.
Based on my experience I would second the previous statements about if you read the book thoroughly, and can consistently get 95-100% on the practice exams, you should be able to pull off an 80% ish on the real exam. Worked for me at least...

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
I studied CAR's for the AME (latest edition) and I went to a website (www.aerotraining.com). They had a bunch of practice exams. They were hard and didn't provide the answers to the questions but really forced me to get into the CARS online to find the answers. Cheers.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
I studied the 6th edition of the CARS book. Did the questions in the back a few times. Read the book a few times. Memorized all the chapters, sub chapters and appendices. I did realize 2 days before my exam that the seventh edition had come out, but the differences are basically changes in sub chapters and appendices.
For example: 511 and 513 merged and is now 521.
591 and 593 have been repealed. (But still know it) SDR and AD. Cause they're important.
There are a few other changes. I would say study the seventh edition of the book...and also check out all chapters,
sub chapters and appendices online on the TC website.
Memorizing the table of contents will at least get you a few points on the exam.
Good luck. And study hard. And most importantly....know what you're reading and really understand it.

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
Here's what I did almost 2 months ago:
I emailed Bill Fraser to see if he is running a training for the CAR's exam but unfortunately, he had no plans.... So I studied his book "CAR's for the AME", 6th edition (I think there is a newer one).
I read the book from front to back and did 1 practice test. There are 5 practice tests so I read the book 5 times. I took some notes using those que cards as I read the book. I also went to the TC website (http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/r ... s/menu.htm) to cross reference what I was reading.
Memorized the table of contents (Chapters, sub-chapters and the appendices). Very Important*** Befor I did each practice test, I always practiced writing down the table of contents on a piece of paper ***
These are the only materials I looked at. I
I gave up on using the AeroTraining site as I could never get past the first exam (you need a 90% to move on to the next sets of tests). Honestly, the book and the TC website is all you need. The TC exam and the practice exams are not similar. But they are pretty close.
The night befor the exam, I did all 5 practice tests again just to make sure I was ok.
At the exam site. Befor I even looked at the computer. As I practiced several times before, I wrote down the table of contents on the piece of paper they provided (Chapters, sub-chapters, the appendices and everything else I could remember that was relevant to CAR's). Took me about 30 mins.
Get a good night sleep, Eat, Relax, take a deep breath and feel good about yourself. If you're stuck on a question..... Move on to the next one and come back to it later. You have lots of time and the answer will come back to you!
Hope this helps and Good Luck... Oh Yeah, I got 92%!

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
I just pass the Exam this morning 88%! Im a brand new AME
I studied only CARS for the AME about 1 hour each day 2 weeks before my exam.
I borrowed a book from a friend and he had written all the answer on the practice exam, so I had to answer the question without looking at the choice if I wanted real practice!
Read question twice and take your time! And you will pass the exam easily!

Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
does anyone can gave me a book to review for CARS AME exam?
Re: CAR's Exam HELP!!
Buy the latest version of CARS FOR THE AME (7th I think)
Read it a few time... Learn the table of content (most important!!!)
Do all the practice test... But don't try to only learn all the questions..
AND carefully read all the questions when you do your test!
Then pass with 80%++

Hi guys..Need Advice here. Im gonna be seating for my AME License in April (M).
General, Powerplant and Airframe. Is there any past year papers where i can go through?
Unlike the FAA they have the Fast Track 2013 Test Guide for all 3 individual Papers. Does the CAA AME have something like that or theres no different and i can get the Softcopy on Fast Track? Any recomendation.
