Flight Deck Jumpseat
Has anyone heard if Transport Canada
is going to move forward with any type of
program to allow pilots of other carriers ride in
the actual Jumpseat?

Re: Flight Deck Jumpseat
They had granted approval for that, about 1 to 2 years ago, all that was required, the companies who were going to participate needed to have a real time system in place for checking employment status before allowing the pilot in the flight deck. I'm not sure how often the database had to be updated but I believe daily, no companies were willing to put in capital for the system so the temporary allowance fell to the wayside.
Imagine that, an airline not wanting to put up a little cash to make pilots lives easier.

Too bad - you would think there could
be some way to use the RAIC reader
for confirmation of status.

Re: Flight Deck Jumpseat
How much interest do you really think airlines have in reinstating flightdeck jumpseat privileges?
This is one program less to manage, thanks to Bin Laden...

Until RAIC's are nationalized they will not be a good method to determine current employment status.
When I renewed my RAIC pass recently, one of the other pilots complained to me that he had to pay for 4 outstanding RAIC passes. These were at a couple of different employers and a couple of different airports. My last two employers failed to even ask me for my RAIC when I left their employ.

Yes I agree, however, it seems to me
that riding in the jump was a
matter of security - therefore if
you have qualified for the pass
chances are that you would meet
that requirement?

I have been all over the cars and cant find the section .. the closest I got was 705.27mbav8r wrote:They had granted approval for that, about 1 to 2 years ago,
Do you know the exact section that has the approval language?

They could be stolen and altered; or a recently fired and disgruntled pilot, something along those lines that they want to keep out of the cockpit perhapsarcticguy wrote:Yes I agree, however, it seems to me

Thanks for the update Aeros - I thought that policy was dead - I just passed the new exemption on to our
management and hopefully it will be available at our airline soon. Hopefully "others" will take advantage
also.
