Adam, I just picked up a Nikon 10-24 for that shot, It blows me away how good these new lenses and cameras are compared to my old F5. That one was shot at 10mm (15mm equiv) at I suspect f8.

Gilles, Any modern SLR will do %130 of what you need, these days you hit the point of diminishing returns much quicker then it use to be. If you don't already have glass for a particular brand I would suggest the entry level SLR from any major company (Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony...). Try em all out and see what feels best in the hand and go with that! The first thing I would add after that is a lens that is not the kit lens, but it depends how much you want to invest. Initially the kit lens will be more then enough to blow any point and shoot out of the water

It looks like a painting to me, close to surrealism, where's the catch? What kind of equipment did you use? What time of the day, or night?

I think that's a little far, but thank you. As for the details here they are:

Nikon D7000
Nikon 10-24mm
B&W CPOL Filter

Shot in raw

Post was done in photoshop but did very little to it.

As for the shooting... F5.6 1/200s ISO400 @10mm

It was late in the day with the sun setting behind me, the lower the light source the better. The wind had just died as we were grabbing our dinner at camp. The clarity of the reflection is largely to do with the filter. The single greatest way to improve shots involving water or sky is to invest in a Circular polarizer!

Nikon 10-24mm

I've been looking for some good glass that is reasonably priced, and I think I may be sold on that one! I don't think I need a prime portrait lens, however it would be good to learn on. I tend to take more landscape shots and it appears that the 10-24 may fit the bill, I really like your style of shooting! I just hope it isn't too difficult to venture away from auto with that wide angle lens.

Hey adam.. the sigma 10-20 f3.5 is a BEAUTY for the price. I've never shot with the nikon 10-24 however.. but have tried all the other wide angles on my canon Crop body.

Going full frame now.. so it'll be up to the 16-35L me thinks.. anyways.. Back to some photos

That's what I've got and I love it. Especially with f2.8 it's an awesome northern lights lens for me!
