Bearskin 5 Bladed metro's

Post by Beach 200 »

So I see Bearskin has converted a few metros over to the MT Propellor with 5 blades. Is this due to slightly improved fuel economy? Noise? Or extra speed?
Are all the metros getting the Mod?

When the first one was fitted, there was a noticeable reduction in noise. WIth our smartphones' noise reading apps, we detected a 20 dB reduction with the 5 blade over a traditional 4 blade. Also, it accelerated and decelerated a lot quicker on the runway. I'm not sure of there was any change to the WAT charts or range/payload as I left the company after only a few months of the new blades being in service.

As for performance I do not believe a mod can be certified if it degrades the performance in any way. It has to be equivalent or better than what it is replacing. Not that being said I am sure it COULD be certified if the mod company wants to redo and certify the new performance which I am sure would come at an astronomical cost.
