Tofino Airport Construction

Post by randallg »

Current NOTAMs say most of CYAZ is closed, including all three aprons. I was hoping to go there and park on Apron 3 for access to the terminal and beach, but apparently that is not possible. Where are aircraft parking these days? Anybody been there lately? Google turns up nothing.

Awwww that sucks. I was planning on spending the day at long beach on Sunday. Figures, I knew there had to be a catch to all this sunny weather!

I've been trying to fly in for the last few days. It's been completely fogged in, even though the forcast usually says it will clear in the afternoon. But it never does...

I've been out there three times this week (both bamfield and tofino) and it seems to clear around 1300 to about 1500.. They are doing a ton of work repaving and fixing the runways and aprons at present.

So where did you park?

They certainly picked the best time of year for it!

I was there on Wed. Didn't check the weather before we left but the METAR was 3/4 mile 400 overcast when we arrived. The airport was in the clear. The weather observers are not at the airport.

As for the construction, it looked like they were getting ready for something big. I'm sure if you go there though there will be somewhere to park. A NOTAM isn't going to have complete and up to date information on every square foot of pavement. Fly over there, have a look, find somewhere to park. If you can't get in just hop across to Courtenay and have your picnic there like we did (weather was cold and miserable at the beach anyway).
