Proline 21

Post by NorthernTundra61 »

Hi guys,

I'm a captain on a king air 350, which has the proline 21 avionics package. Just curious if you guys think I'm logging decent time if my goal is westjet? The 350 is a good preforming machine with nice avionics, but it's pretty basic systems-wise.
What are your thoughts? BTW I have a fair amount 705 time already in my logbook. Just wondering if this avionics experience would complement the 705 time I have?

Not sure what you mean. I'm not familiar with BCE. Who/ what is that?

I have never flown a B350. I have found that all this talk about preparing for a jet by having EFIS time is somewhat silly. I went from steam to an RJ and immediately found the avionics intuitive. Literally within the first hour I wondered how I ever flew hard IFR with steam gauges.

After that I went on a B737 and the background on the RJ made FMS stuff a non-issue.

I don't think you'll have any issue.

Best of luck getting hired!

Cheers,

The 350 I flew had dual Universals, and Pro Line 21 EFIS. They made the jump to the NG pretty easy (Even if the NG has Collins' FMCs, it's pretty intuitive).
Best of luck!

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm confident that if I had an opportunity on the 737, I would do fine.
Getting the call for an interview seems to be the tough part!

Do you think the proline 21 time would rank fairly high with regards to the hiring matrix?

I've flown both the 737NG and a King Air with Proline 21. The FMS is very similiar to the Boeing, so you'll have a good foundation if you go with Westjet. good luck.

Considering they hire guys from the B1900 that has got a bit of an EFIS set up, I would guess anything above and beyond as far as avionics goes would qualify? After browsing through some google pics the proline 21 seems to have the typical PFD and MFD set up which the 1900 doesn't have?

I don't know for sure! But it seems like an easier transition from something of that nature in comparison to say a B1900 where you have an ADI and a EHSI with a map feature on it backed up by some form of GPS?

I'm sure if DaveP sees this he can shed some light on it for you!
