If you mean the TIGHAR expedition a few years ago, DNA testing on that finger bone turned out inconclusive - they can't do any additional tests without destroying what is left of the bone.

On the same note, they just finished another expedition to Nikumaroro where they used deep-water vessels in an attempt to find some remnants of the airplane off the reef they suspect she used as a landing site. Unfortunately, they again couldn't find anything conclusive due to the shape of the reef - very disappointing!

For the full story, check out http://tighar.org/Projects/Earhart/AEdescr.html. Very interesting reading! No smoking gun, but they make a very strong case.

Well I hope they do find the plane. I found one up in the NWT that had a happier ending. Everybody was ok. The PBY is still underwater and as far as I know nobody has dove the wreck yet in over 60 years. Interesting stuff. I'm planning a diving expedition next summer anybody interested? This will be a picture taking exploration only. No souveniers. PM me.

It's too bad they don't DNA test the fingerbone to find out for sure. If it is her, then they know. Although I wonder how they will tell it was her? DNA should be able to tell what race the finger belonged to, and whether it was a male or female. I don't think it can conclusively be matched to her regardless unless they have kept a tissue sample for all these years. If it is not, then it's just another homeless finger so why keep it?

Good luck, let me know if you need an expedition seaplane pilot

i think if they can get an idea that there was a caucasion female of the same age as Amelia on that island around the same time, that it would be strong enough evidence for me.

They already have proven, through circumstantial evidence, that a Caucasian female of about Amelia's size was marooned in that location. They've found hand lotion containers from that time period, and can tell from the way the clams and fish were eaten that the person living there was from Western origin. However, they've found that the public wants a "smoking gun," as there are still many skeptics. They don't want to conclusively decree that they've found her for that reason - although I'm pretty convinced myself.

I think you guys should stop listening to TIGHR B.S.
Most of what they ever state gets proven wrong pretty quickly
What you don't know is that there was a ship wrecked just off that island in the 1930's
Most research has determined that the bone testing was inconclusive and the artifacts are most likely from that wreck.
TIGHR has been selling adventure vacations for years and has an absolutely terrible reputation world wide.
They have started many of these little expeditions luring many financial backers but have never ever recovered anything EVER !

Many people have theories and it amazes me how many people refuse to listen to Amelia herself in her last transmissions
She states clearly that she is running a back and forth , low on fuel and cannot see the island .
In the last broadcasts her voice was very shrill near hysterical.
Doubt she would sound like that if she was going to a plan B
My bet is that they are in the deep six

I'm well aware of the wreck of the SS Norwich City (it wrecked in 1929). Funny thing is, there were no women on board that ship - so why would they be finding artifacts from a 1930s era Female (makeup case & rouge, etc.)? Nikumaroro lies right on the line that she states she was running (157 337). I'm not going to get into a pissing match on this forum, so I will agree to disagree with you. For the time being, I'm still convinced.

Make up case and lipstick ?
I think you need to research the findings a bit better
A jar was found that "looks similar" to a freckle cream jar but is the wrong colour glass
Their theory : since Earhart had freckles it MUST be hers.... very very thin like all their conclusions have been
There are not items that have been positively id'd as items used by a female, even the large size shoe heal is suspect. The shoe heal is a size nine and not positively id'd as a womens , she was a size six etc Searching the island many many items have been found that have been proven to be parts of WW2 aircraft etc
It seems the island was a bit of a stop over as such and also the villagers scavenge from all over leaving items everywhere.
There is not one item that can positively be linked to her or Noonan
I also do not want to start a pissing match but please research more. I think you will change your mind

I am definitely no expert but having been involved in an internationally funded Earhart project, we had access to much of the info gathered by groups over the years and there is nothing that even remotely proves what happened.
All have been grand theories with really sketchy conclusions based on personal opinions.
I have no theories about what happened only what she states.
Read the radio transmissions she is telling us what inevitably happened.
But if you want a rather fun but frustrating holiday give TIGHAR your money and maybe you can go along with the but strangely they don't usually allows donors to actually go. ( research their history also it is very strange and they have never ver found or recovered anything ever)

LOL - I have no intention of giving money or going on the expedition! The South Pacific is nice this time of year, but I can think of better places to be.

I'll admit that my research is limited to what I can find on Google and Discovery Channel, but there seems to be alot more than the glass jar. What about the makeup case and mirror? The bones found in the 1940s that were likely from a 5'5" Female? Locals talking about an aircraft that landed on the reef in the 1930s? I admit "Nessie" is a bit of a stretch (and their latest expedition's inability to find the plane brings it further into question). All the same, I find it interesting to follow along with their research but have no vested interest (or the time!) to get deeply involved. I'll take your word on TIGHAR's reputation, but I find it interesting to follow nonetheless.

Does it really matter though? No matter what, she's dead now - the how/why/where/when is immaterial, really, and will only ruin the mystery..

Does anyone remember the National Geographic cover from 1985 of the 'Afghan Girl'? Count me among the people who were happy to remember the before pictures, and not go looking for the 'after' ones..

Mysteries beg to be solved, and disappearances beg to be found. I pondered for a couple of decades where and when the BSAA Avro Lancastrian "Star Dust" would be found. It was ultimately found in the Andes in 1998, 51 years after it departed Buenos Aires for Santiago, Chile. Where is the BSAA Avro Tudor "Star Tiger" which disappeared on a trip from the Azores to Bermuda in 1948?
Where is the USMC C-54 that departed Elmendorf AFB,in Alaska to Malmstron AFB (Great Falls, MT) in January, 1950? No trace of this aircraft has been found.
What caused a Northwest Airlines DC-7C to crash in the Pacific Ocean in 1963, enroute to Elmendorf AFB from McChord AFB?

Why didn't the U.S. Navy and/or Coast Guard do a detailed search of Gardner Island, after a search aircraft reported "signs of recent habitation" when it over-flew the island a week after Earhart's disappearance?

Enduring mysteries..
