Hay Island strip at York Factory

Post by onceacop »

Anyone know the condition of Hay Island strip and the length? 160 HP Pacer following me in sept. I'm flying a Scout or Super Cub. We'll have a 185 along as well. Thanks for any help.

Call Gillam Air - I think that they go in there pretty regularly during the summer. Watch out for bears.

Gillam Air would be the best bet for conditions. Usually we had parks go over or the first nations go across and fill the pot holes. Depends on what the winter ice flows have left on the field or the high tides. Drift wood, or any other garbage can be found on that strip. We had the islanders in there weekly at times in the summer. 185, super cub and a pacer should be okay, pacer not too sure about as I have never seen one. Go light, save the gear and the airframe from all the bumps. then you can head north and view port Nelson or head to Churchill depending on how much fuel you got. Or just land in gillam and take an islander flight!
