Anyone know if this IFR book is good? They also publish one for the ATPL.

No idea about this book ... food for thought. That book is out of date the day you buy it. IT WILL BE CLOSE TO $40 OR MORE...

Two years ago I had to rewrite my INRAT as I let it lapse for over two years. I found something on line at www.canadapilot.com it is the Canadian Inrat Prep Course. It cost about $40 and it was incredible. The best money I ever spent in Aviation. I am still using it and you can update it all the time. It is based on your computer and you can put it on your laptop and take it with you. I think they let you download it and try it out to see if it works and if you like it .... but the trail version only has a very limited number of questions. The unlocked version is off the charts. Hundreds of questions with explanations and diagrams.

Before you buy that book or any other book ... check out that software. Its all you need. No comment on the book.

Rapid - I have to ask:

While I was searching AvCanada with the same question I notice you seem to be the only one endorsing this program. I did the trial and it does seem alright, I just want to know if you are affiliated with them or not.

When I did the trial it just seemed to be a giant Q/A base. Wouldn't it make more sense to actually learn the material, rather than just do a thousand sample questions?

DaveC I have no affiliation with this company at all. I will not make 2 cents from them or get a thank you for the referal. But as the technology changes I am realizing ... the book is another book BUT IT CAN NOT BE UPDATED. I bought this program 3 years ago and I still have the link on my desk top and I refer to it sometimes to pass the time. Its a great review.

I let my IFR lapse for 20 years. I had to rewrite my INRAT. I have books sitting here. Lots of them and they are all out of date. That IFR course mentioned above covers everything and gives the explainations for the answers and all of the course material. You can read the AIM and the outdated IPM I hear that its being re released. I did use the Aero Course Book which is still question and answer based. That software is set up to even simulate a written exam. After a 20 year absence from IFR Flying, It gave me all of the information in one place except the CAP GEN.

That course is a one time fee, it can be updated, and I still use it two years after writing my INRAT ... I use it for a review. It is worth every penny. I can honestly say it is the best $40 in aviation that I ever spent. It prepared me for the INRAT Exam and I did very well on the exam and was very happy with my score. If he heard about the software and buys it GREAT, if he doesn't thats Fine. I stumbled upon it in a link, by accident, and I wish I had known about it sooner. I hope he finds it as useful as I did. And just to add further this was mentioned in another thread and two others spoke very highly of that program.

I also do not have any affiliation with this company and like rapid602 stumbled across this company.

IMHO, this is a great tool and I am very happy I purchased a subscription. It helped tremendously when studying for the INRAT and served to reinforce what I knew and highlight what I didn't. There are multiple configurations available. My favourite being the setup which asks the question, provides multiple choice answers and then immediately tells you if you were correct or not. The best thing here is that the system immediately offers a pretty detailed explanation for each question. Got it wrong; read the explanation right away. Got it right; move to the next question or or if you guessed, read the notes. Also lets you save sessions and repeat the questions you got wrong. Updated regularly so it stays current. There is an iPad and iPhone version as well and a single subscription gives you access to all. I regularly fire it up and quiz myself.

This will not replace learning the material but does help in making sure you understand it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Do you guys still think it's good study material? I'm rewriting my INRAT and this software was proposed to me.

I just passed - the App is pretty good (that PAJ mentioned) there are a couple of strangely worded questions, but mostly good.
I used the Aerocourse workbook as well (very helpful).
And finally, PilotTraining.ca for groundschool.
