So I spent the large part of the day in Winnipeg. After a great meal at the terminal, I proceed to use the mens washroom...and there is a person in the stall next to me. I walk out to wash my hands and buddy in the stall walks out and bolts out of the washroom without even washing his hands.
He was a security guard at the departure gate later as I find out when I walked past the security area where I saw him handling people's carry-on's and jackets.
No wonder people get sick when traveling on aircraft. They don't have a fighting chance even before boarding happens.
I am sick at why people are so disgusting.

well that doesn't do much to damage my opinion of security guards... in winnipeg in particular. it seems like teenage punks and old men are the best folks for the job, in the eyes of whoever does the hiring. something has always smacked kind of odd about getting grilled by a kid with dyed hair and multiple piercings in his head. makes me feel all cozy and secure...
I was a rent-a-cop for a while I was doing my CPL/Multi-IFR. It was a job
I got paid 9$/hr to "guard" a busy inter-city hospital. 11$/hr to be the shift supervisor. I used it as a job. Most of the guys there were going in to be cops. They were putting in their time doing ramp like jobs for Cops.
No one with a family could afford to live on that kind of money. It's accountants that tender out contracts. The lowest bidder always wins. Hence 8-10$/hr salary. That's why you see young guy/girls and retired guys (that already have a pension) working the security desk.
It started as a summer job patrolling a campsite. That was fun!! Topless chick, parties every night braking up fights and driving a police package Lumina, with a light bar/PA (Step away from the two-four), way too fast. Kinda like Supper Troopers…
But when that contract finished that contract I got on the low income housing patrol and man did that ever open my eyes!! I was working very close with the cops. Even they didn’t want to go into those projects.
And nothing give you a warm fuzzy feeling then to kick someone out of a hospital... Oh, and we (as security) had to push the dead bodys into the morgue... Also let’s not even get into all the Psyic patients that came in off the street coming down off something. (It’s incredible how strong someone on Coke is…)
All for 9$/hr.
My job now as an instructor is only marginally better. At least I don't have to worry about handling HIV + ppl on a daily basis. And every time I get out of the plane I don't put on my kevlar fight gloves anymore.
I still have my big as* Mag light though... Nothing like 4 d cells coming

Most sites pay $20+/hr. But the guard makes half.. Just like an instructor..

I am all too familiar with the security industry in Winnipeg. The majority are cop wannabees wearing polyester pants and clip-on ties. They are "cut loose" after a one day "course" on the big bad rights of the security guard and away they go protecting the lives and property of the building or site they are at. A few of the intelligent and mature ones do a proper job, the rest.... 
The city cops can't stand security guards, especially those eager beaver types who end up screwing up a crime scene or making improper arrests. Anyways the airport ones are not much better. You're stuck with pimple popping kids or crusty old commissionaires.
