WestJet for Europe, Please! Please! I am on my knees

Post by back_course »

Dear WestJet clever people that read this.

1. Air Canada have sealed their fate, and their low cost model is clearly floored at all levels of the business plan, strategic failure is imminent.

2. Please get the slots for London, Paris, Frankfurt, Rome ect..

3. Please go fly the Canadian flag and do it the justice it deserves.

4. Please use the skill and knowledge of the AC crews and make a International Canadian airline a world player again.

5. Please keep your standards

6. Please hurry and get on the international scene.. you are required!

7. Please give us a hint your on it :)

Don't hold your breath. All the code shares and interlines they have recently sign would suggest it's not a high priority. Not to mention they don'y have a fleet for it.

I would also like to see WJ fly to Europe. Right now there is really no airline that I can trust to fly to the UK. It's either overpriced, unstable and financially dubious AC, overpriced BA, or financially dubious Transat. Am I missing any? It really sucks.

I think eventually WJ will eventually grow and take on these routes. I just hope it doesn't prove to be their downfall.

Fortunately for the employees and shareholders, Westjet's priority is not and has never been to be an airline. Westjet's priority is to be a profitable airline. The intense competition in long haul flying, combined with high foreign subsidies and the current government's desire to outsource all high paying Canadian jobs to India, China, and the Czech Republic, mean that it's going to be at least a decade before Westjet expands to wide body aircraft, if ever.

There is simply no one at Westjet who wants to trade a medium sized successful airline for a large unsuccessful one. And certainly not to fly the Canadian flag (or even the Alberta flag).

I would also add that even if WestJet got larger aircraft and started long haul flights, Europe would be at the bottom of the list of destinations. Low yields and fierce competition, why bother.

One would hope if WS became the national carrier in Canada they would stop with the jokes and take themselves a tad more seriously.

2011

Air Canada: $250 million loss

Westjet: $150 million profit

So who takes their business more seriously?

I believe that would be contrary to WestJet culture.

Even though I don't work for WJ, and might agree the jokes might be too much at points I don't think it's very fair you judge an airline whether its suitable for a national carrier status or not. For ex. what the FA's might joke about in the back does not represent how the aircraft is handled up front and how well the airline is managed.

Same can be said with AC. If they want to remain as our national carrier they should hire more experience pilots such as westjet (minimum 4000 hours) rather then the 2000 hours pilots at AC that has never sat left seat for a job in anything bigger than a C172 and will soon be captain of an a320 for the Low cost airline. The reputation of national airline is on the line!! Shouldn't AC have the best of the best? Not fair of me to judge an airline like that is it? agreed! (before anyone jumps down my throat)

Even if WJ has many jokes, they have excellent customer service. Maybe Air Canada might take a lesson and not be the serious "we are here for your safety not your comfort" attitude. Then again over the past few years I have noticed AC, advertisement and service is slowly adopting the chipper westjet attitude. Why? Because it's an affective tool in making a ''guest'' feel more welcome than just a customer who is told to sit down and shush up.

funny how people think professionalism has to come with a serious and sinister attitude.
serious people on the job are boring, and making jokes from time to time while going beyond your duties makes it more enjoyable for you, your crew, and customers.

Was on WJ last week and heard the "frayed knot" joke and a couple other lame but family friendly jokes and have heard the joke segment of the flight in the past, that being said, it's not as frequent as it used to be.

More than half my class experience was from the 705 world and the rest all had good 704/703 experience. No one had just left seat C172...that's ridiculous !

The fares may be more than you can afford, but they are clearly not overpriced. Since most of the airlines serving those routes are in financial distress it seems like the fares are too low. Unfortunately for the airlines involved, intense competition is keeping them from raising fares.

8. Please, please, please. Ask your FAs/Counter check-in staff to ditch the stand-up comic, yuk-yuk tirade. Across the pond is a long haul so just get on the runway, aim it for London and be gone. Honestly, it will probably be past my bed time and I need a sleep, but I will accept a drop before nodding off........

PS Service Canada - Job Bank at last count indicated there are 3500 clowns now unemployed..... and you guys/gals want a comedy act and nope, I ain't waving to the FA in the back of the plane, I don't know him/her. :smt051

How could any of you actually be arguing against a positive, fun corporate culture? You do realize that that is a big part of why they are so successful, right? Because the people there are enjoying their job, and are therefore happy to "go the extra mile" and when you add up all the little extra miles you get a tangible financial benefit. Lmao do you seriously not like it when somebody smiles at you?

Last December, a cold morning and a 6.00am departure to YYZ out of YHZ, up at 4.00am, clean the frost/snow from the old beast, hit Tims for a wake-up brew and face the drive in, couldn't find a decent radio station with all the yapping DJs, finally got CBC Radio2 for some peace of mind tunes. Park said beast, drag the bags and the "herself" who was quiet(and thank Christ for that). Check-in, some yawns, trug through security, in departure needing for a piss. Then it hits, the famed WJ announcement comedy act......... ditto on the flight , continued into YYZ.

Only saving grace is I didn't quaff any red the night before/morning of ..................

Not against against a positive, fun corporate culture.

After numerous flights one realizes the fun and games are scripted and contrived not spontaneous and genuine.

I am sorry, but those "extra miles" provide zero tangible benefit to me. WJ is no cheaper or better on average than AC; I have had good and bad flights on both.

It is very nice when someone smiles, of course, but I don't need the corny script. A genuine smile from someone at an airline with traditional service style is just as welcome.
