mikisew is not too bad from what i hear. if you are going to the ramp, there will be a long wait, but if you are talking about the 206 job, well, you could do alot worse. Ft mac is pricey, but it is pretty civilised compared with a lot of places you could end up flying a 206. you got all the decent chain restaurants like earls, moxies, montanas, etc. and that area is only going to get busier with the price of oil.

I've been working for Air Mikisew for 8 months now. No problems yet - just your typical aviation BS. Lots of fun and a really good gang to hang out with after hours. It is incredibly expensive in McMurray so prepare yourself for another part-time job. If you have any more questions PM me.

true, but at least it was a large 22 oz pint! didn't know they were gone...haven't been there since February. the place was pretty empty when I was there, so i can understand why.

Earls

Post by Pete O'static »

They are new and improved and still open. Not sure on the prices, but they have a patio and I will find out soon. ( A high of 28c today)

As far as Air Mikisew is concerned. It's not a bad place, there are plenty of worse places to live then Fort McMurray. Lots of staffing changes right now which may provide for some new hires and promotions from within.

yep, $9 is pretty steep, but that's what you get when the rent is double, staffing costs are double, etc. that's the price of being in a boom town. plus, i am probably jaded as I am used to the prices in vancouver. not that i have ever paid $9, though....ouch. usually $4-$6.

as for mikisew, i bet things are going to be moving even more over the next year or so. with the up stream movement starting, it's only a matter of time until it filters down. My buddy who was on furlough from AC for 3 years just got called back, so that bodes well for all.

Hey wallypilot do you know that pub on Ladner Road just down from the Boundary Bay Airport? The Sundowner or Sunset Pub something like that I remember they had pints of Black Label (which they said was Canadian) for $2.95. I didn't care what they sold, for that price I was buying. It was a dive but I'm trying to remember the name.

Really the sundowner? Get a little up scale go across Hwy 17 and head to the Lander Landing.... much better not much more expensive...

Then again I hang out at a place in richmond that all through high school and into my early twenties had $7.50 pictures of Canadian. Now they are expensive as hell there at $8.50. Plus free popcorn (peanuts in the shell on Friday).

Cheers :)
