At about 14:30 today, saw something like a MD-90 or something take off, and it was immediately followed (looked like a simultaneous takeoff) by a smaller jet, couldn't tell what, but it was something with wingtip tanks. (Looked like an older fighter or something). It stayed less than a few hundred feet behind on the larger jet's low right quarter the entire way out on departure for as long as I could see, bouncing in it's wake turbulence the whole time.
At ideas?

Sounds like the NRC (National Research Council) T-33 (with the huge tip tanks) doing some wake research?

Lead plane was a midsize passenger jet with twin fuselage mounted engines, an RJ of some sort.

That leaves little doubt as to what it was. Thanks for the find Pratt, now I can sleep tonight without resorting to more beer than usual.
