Oh boy......well, good for him. It seems he might be in the right place now. But then again, we said that when he moved from the oil industry to WS and look what happened. And then we ended up with.........

Re: Sean Durfy new CEO job
Durfy is a good, smart, downright cool dude.
He was a regular in my pub. Even wrote a segment on it in his blog.
The results he garners are the product of shrewd business combined with actual values and ground up mentalities- NOT "cut off your nose despite your face", short term, self promotional number boosting. Unfortunately this type of CEO is an actual contradiction, as most "successful" CEO's are driven by an unrelenting promotion and selfishness as personality traits that got them to the postion.
Best of luck, which is unnecesary for him of course.

I agree Dan. He is a great guy. He lead us through a growth period and was a natural at marketing, he did a lot for our brand. I wish him well.

Don Bell says...
“What mistakes did you make in your career?’
“Too many to list,” Bell answers quickly. Then he ponders for a moment before continuing. “I wish the board had focused on the talent internally and helped to mentor and coach them into higher positions as part of succession planning,” he says. “External leaders don’t usually work out and we saw that first hand with Steve Smith and Sean Durfy. Perpetuating a culture as strong as ours is critical to the long-term success of the organization. Not that they didn’t embrace it – they did. But as they didn’t grow up in the organization it was much more difficult for someone to know all the things that made the culture what it was.”

Re: Sean Durfy new CEO job
Interesting take by Don however I am not sure I compleyely agree with it.
When it became apparent that some new blood at the top was needed both Don and Clive brought new guys in to VP positions. Clive brought in Sean and Don brought in another guy (was a while ago but I think his name was Garry?).
Basically these 2 had on the job interviews to see who would replace Clive. When Sean was named President the other guy resigned shortly after. It seems that Sean is getting smacked a bit now that he has been gone for a while. I don't know if WS succeeded because of hinm or in spite of him but he certainly seemed passionate about what he was doing.
FWIW he had a plan for a regional operation built as well.
