Into the Abyss - Wapiti Crash
Heard them talking about this on CBC radio last night. Very interesed to hear Mr. Vogel on there. I know he has posted here and I commend him for contributing from his point of view. I think there is much good to be learned about such a tragedy.

Can't wait to get this book. I think it will be a must read for every pilot.
No, I don't know the author. I wonder if this is her?

Nice catch, Mr. Wings! The book was featured on The Current.

Some of you may also remember Ms. Shaben's award-winning article in The Walrus a few years ago.

She is an excellent journalist, working with an incredible story. I'll be picking up my copy tonight!

I heard the article too, and will look for the book. It was interesting hearing from the victims. I remember the lead-up, the accident, and the fall out all too well.
Nice to see you are still around Widow. I hope you're keeping well.

Re: Into the Abyss - Wapiti Crash
Just finished the book. I found it quite interesting, a real page turner. I would recommend to anyone interested in aviation. Most interestingly in the aftermath during the inquiry, it came to light how most of the pressure Erik (the pilot) felt seemed to be self imposed. I have experienced this myself as I was starting out in the industry. Self induced pressure.
The whole story would make a great CRM study

Re: Into the Abyss - Wapiti Crash
Wallyworld had the book on sale so I bought it.
A very well written book.
I remember the accident and the fall out but details were a big vauge after the years.
I am into the part just before the rescue and it is one of the books that once you start to read, you cannot put it down. Definatley going to remain in my library.
It is also available as an ebook for 10 bucks less than the hard copy but I have the hard copy.

I checked three bookstores in YXD--all sold out! Even YEG terminal didn't have any left. I'll try Costco. Glad to hear it's a good read.

Read this book at Christmas and couldn't put it down. Very well researched and written.
Great learning, albeit heartbreaking, for all pilots. Great reading for anyone.
Well done, Ms. Shaben. Thanks for your contribution, Mr. Vogel.

Re: Into the Abyss - Wapiti Crash
I echo what Mr. Wings says. It was a very good read, well written, and I recommend to all.
As I read it I kept wondering "What has changed?" since that accident in 1984. Well, less likelihood of an accident due to erroneous DR navigation (with increased risks associated with GPS nav). That was about the only thing I could think of that has changed. If I'm correct, it's a pretty sad state of affairs to think that sort of cr*p is still going on, and is still tolerated.
