1971 Airline Ticket Prices
In 1971 eight around the world airline tickets cost only $7600
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hafele%E2% ... experiment
"...Hafele and Keating obtained $8000 in funding from the Office of Naval Research[16] for one of the most inexpensive tests ever conducted of general relativity. Of this amount, $7600 was spent on the eight round-the-world plane tickets."
Brushing aside the unimportant questions such as
"what does this tell us about the fundamental nature of reality"
and
" should the eastbound airline crew get paid less, since they used the accelerating effect of earths rotation to slow their clocks, making them punch in at the ground timecard sooner"
the important question in my mind about all of this is
What did they spend the remaining $400 on?
Probably bought the stews dinner-or maybe spent it on new bowties.

In 2006 2 adults and one child cost a bit over $14000 on Star Alliance.
Here's a link to a site where you can calculate one. http://www.staralliance.com/en/fares/ro ... orld-fare/
After entering all your personal information it was promptly lost back then. Fortunately I had printed a copy of all the flights. Then I had to physically take it to an Air Canada desk for someone to enter them one at a time into a computer there at the airport.
I have no idea about today. Can't afford that sort of thing very often. It's a great trip but a little overwhelming. We did Honolulu, Sydney, Aukland, Melbourne, Ciaro, Telouse, Manchester- ground to London Heathrow, Washinton DC, home.
Air Canada was a less enjoyable flight than most of carriers on the trip.
United was noticeably the worst to fly with by a pretty fair margin. Including a cancelled flight due to over booking, attempted charge for a drink on an international leg, both lost and broken luggage after attempting to charge a fee for an over weight bag that had been on every other flight of the trip. Instead of paying the fee, we put all the laundry in a garbage bag and checked that as an allowable second piece of luggage that made it on the same flight as we did.

Inflation Calculator http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi
What cost $8000 in 1971 would cost $43814.61 in 2011.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2011 and 1971,
they would cost you $8000 and $1441.09 respectively.

Amazing the inflation in just my lifetime. What cost $1 in 1975 would cost $4.12 in 2011.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2011 and 1975,
they would cost you $1 and $0.23 respectively.
