Long time reader but first time poster on AvCanada. Started my PPL last year but ended up stopping right before my x-country since I was working out of the country for a while. Was at a school down south.

Now I'm up in Fort Mac and looking to finish up my PPL and wondering if anyone here would recommend McMurray Aviation or if I should stay away from them.

I've read about a few of their crashes and they have some questionable CADORS (taking off without a clearance, etc.) so I'm wondering if it's a solid operation.

If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it, feel free to message here or PM.

McMurray Aviation is the only game in town unless you own an airplane. I think it's a good operation, and the flight school has some good instructors now. I wouldn't worry about the CADORS about taking off without a clearance. Brain fart.

Everyone will have different experiences I am sure, but I have found Wade very reasonable over the years. One great advantage with getting your training done in YMM is that the 'training areas' are right outside the control zone. I would have no problem recommending Wade's operation to anyone looking at getting the PPL.

I don't personally know the current instructors but I know the operation has very good maintenance, good hiring personnel and there's nothing to be scared of training there. The key to good training is a good work ethic on the student's part, so you have every opportunity to succeed.

Wade's operation is top notch. I worked as a line pilot there several years ago. If you saw the runways that some of the wheeled airplanes go into, you'd give them an A+ for not having more crashes. Wade obviously does great check-outs.

As far as the Cadors go, well I got Cador'd there too. I had to defend myself and I won the case. The Tower goon was described as the "CADOR QUEEN" by most of us pilots back then. If you stopped 1/2" over the line with your prop spinner you'd end up Cador'd for a runway incursion
