I was wondering what the commute (quality of life) would be like working for AC commuting out of Calgary. Is it possible to bid flights in and out of YYC or would I be looking at spending a good chunk of my time at a crash pad in Toronto. Thanks in advance for any info

Just spoke with a newer YVR EMJ FO who commutes home to YYC (6 months seniority) works 15-16 days a month....usually gets 4-6 YYC layovers at home....and commutes day of most of the time. Apparently usually only has to pay for 1-2 overnights in YVR....at the Delta which is where most guys stay....under $70 incl. Tax.
There are a lot more pilots in YYZ that commute to YYC than in YVR that commute to YYC. So the competition will be stiff as it is seniority based. AC's flights are generally oversold with several standbys to boot, not all but most. As for layovers, there are a lot of senior guys that bid the western flying including Calgary, so layovers are minimal as well. Not saying its impossible but it is certainly a pain in the ass, especially if you are on reserve. Not trying to burst your bubble, just trying to give it to ya straight. One thing you do have on your side is the jumpseat, only pilots and FA's are allowed up front.. this will come in handy for sure. Hope all this helps.
Im assuming you're a new hire in the November class?
