UFlyMike..yes another headset thread

Post by squirrely »

Hello All,

Does anyone use the UFlyMike adapter? And if so, what headset do you use with it and what type of plane are you flying? It looks like a great way to get good noise cancelling for a good price.

Here's some links for the curious:

We use them with Bose QC 15 headsets. They are pretty great and you can plug your iPhone/iPod into the headsets as well. Would do again.

I have been using it, in conjunction with a QC2, on a 737 for the last three years. Every co-worker that has tried it wanted one. Excellent for deadheading as well. I don't know if it would provide enough sound protection in a louder cockpit, eg PA31. Probably ok for King Air or dash 8. Definitely not enough for a loud cockpit.

I go through one AAA every 40 hours and they are the 50 cent no name brand.

I use it on the Dash with the QC15. Works good, and can use the headset in other applications.

I forget if I have the QC15 or QC3, either way I've enjoyed it. Used it in King Airs, Caravans, C206s, I find it works very well with turbines, less well with pistons. It's nice for travel as you can take the mic off and not look like an idiot. That being said Zulu II's and the new Sennheiser's I find to be quiter, more robust, almost as comfy and more convenient.

I have this with the QC15's I use them in the Challenger and used them in the Navajo without any issue. I would say they are as quiet as the A20's which I have as well.

Thanks Guys! I'm currently flying a King Air so it sounds like there wont be any issues. Sounds like a good replacement for my old X's and being able to disconnect the mic and use them normally is a huge plus!

I've had mine for about a year and a half now. They are fantastic in everything I've used them in, a Pawnee, Cornell, Harvard, Cessna singles, and the 1900 (also great on all jets). The only issue is with piston singles I've found (in particular the Pawnee and Scout) on takeoff, if you have a radio transmission come in as you are applying power quickly, the sound will cut out (on the QC15's at least) while you will retain the ability to speak through the mic, you do lose sound briefly. This is due to the noise cancelling system becoming overwhelmed. Its never been a problem in the 1900 though, so I doubt you'll have any issue on the King Air. UFlyMike is also fantastic for customer service and getting back to you extremely quickly about any questions you might have.
