De Ice & Anti Ice costs in Canada
Hi,
I was curious if anyone had any experiences in regards to de ice and anti ice (type I & IV) in Canada, I've heard that prices can vary.
we were in CYWG last week during the snow storm in a light jet and we needed type I and IV and the charge was over 2300$ it was shocking to say the least.
The downside in YWG is that the FBO's dont offer that service like in YYC or YUL so your forced to use the ICEMAN!

That's pretty normal. Certainly not exorbitant for I and IV from a central de-icing facility.
Do you have an agreement with Serviceair?

$2,300 sounds like a pretty quick spray, like wings and tail only. Last deice bill we had was just over $4,400 for the same category of aircraft at YHZ late last March for I and IV at the central facility. I believe the lowest deice bill I've seen us get in the last couple of years is just over $2,000 for I and IV. But the season 'tis upon us again.

Thats not that bad.... The worst that i have personnally done is a 737-800 that spent the night under freezing rain... It had more than an inch thick of clear ice on it, all over the plane. Ive estimated that we put for approximately 35000-40000$ of type 1 only...
Type 4 cost wasa negligeable compare to this!!!
They probably did not make that much profit for that flight...

With those exorbitant prices I'm surprised why more airlines don't use the tempered steam technology. Advantage is it can be done at gate and would take 10-20 minutes for a post precipitation event. Worst you can go for a spray afterwards if there's still precipitation and save a ton of cash/environmental damage after removing most of the ice just using this technology.fabichoux wrote:Thats not that bad.... Porter tried this a few years ago. It didn't work very well, especially in active frost conditions.
Doesn't EWR have an IR facility?

I know of a beech 1900 spray that cost over 20 g's. The pilots called for a spray their way to the airport to try and get off the ground sooner. Turns out the de-ice truck was driving by as the call came in and started right away. The problem was there was over 6 inches of wet snow over the whole aircraft and the de-icing crew decided to go ahead and spray it all off.

The number I heard is on average 9$/litre. A friend of mine worked for the Walmart aviation dept in YYZ, after going through the Central Delay Facility which cost around 15k they were so long in the Conga Line they would have to be resprayed. There Policy now is that if it is snowing, they don't fly. In CYMX they have an air blast machine that uses a small turbine, and large surge tank to blow most of the snow off, this should be at all airports imho.
