Hey Liberal Government come to the real world!

Post by DA900 »

Hey Martin why don't you get to real problems happening here in Canada. Why I'm sure you all care about the gay marriage issue that seems to burning up your time. Try looking whats been going on this week across Canada. Here is just a sample of shootings from just 3 cities alone.

Get off your ass and start making laws that put these asshole in jail for real sentences. Any one caught using a gun for a crime should be in jail for no less then 10 years minimum!

I know nothing will happen because the Liberals don't care about innocent people getting shot or cracking down on child porn, but hey if you are gay you have an ally in Ottawa.

So Criminal laws that predate the Liberal government are now their fault? Good to know.

May or may not be the Liberals fault. Not sure which party enacted the current set of laws and sentences but the Liberals have been in power long enough to have done something about it by now!

These sort of laws piss me off, not because they increase sentences (which is a good thing for violent crimes, IMO), but because they're just stupid. People aren't more robbed if someone uses a gun rather than a knife, or more dead if they're shot rather than beaten to death. Same thing with "hate" crimes... if someone is beating the tar out of someone, I think they hate them in pretty much every case.

no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.

Wow costermonger I see you missed the point entirely. Maybe you haven't noticed that the Liberals have been in power for 12 years. In that time just some of the Liberal admendments to the Criminal Code of Canada.

1) That a offender convicted of a crime shall be released on parole after serving 2/3 of their sentence. The serious crime of 1st degree murder life in prison you can not be released after 2/3, but again thanks to the Liberals you may apply for parole after 17 years.

2) An offender remanded in custody(denied bail) is to be given credit for timed served, but not 1 for 1. The Judge can give as much as 3 to 1. So if you receive a 5 year sentence spent 6 months in custody 1.5 years is removed from your sentence and the bonus you still get parole after 2/3 of your sentence.

3) One of the best admendments they have brought in Conditional Sentence which is basically house arrest. This has been given out to rapists, racing your car and killing a person walking on a sidewalk, child porn, ect.

So yes I'm quite unhappy with this joke of a Government. When I see people shot on the street just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and knowing the culprits will not serve anytime because the Liberals are more concerned with gay marriage and spending useless money on gun registry. :smt013

Maybe if the liberals were concerned about meting out justice they would be doing something more about that whore homolka getting out. What a slap in the face to the families of Kristen French et al. I can't believe that the Ontario atty general was stupid enough to plea bargain with that cu*t. The whole sentence should have been overturned and that whore should have never, ever, been allowed to see the light of day.

We should just have some RCMP officers follow her around and arrest every person she's interested in romantically.

Not to pick an argument, but I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that the deal was made in order to make the case against Bernardo iron-clad. Without Homolka's testimony, there might have been a 'reasonable doubt,' and thus, acquittal. A case of the AG holding their nose, and making a deal.

Actually it wasn't her testimony they really needed. It was the video tapes that they both made of the crime. The search of the residence failed to turn up the tapes which the crown knew existed. So her lawyer stuck a deal (hope he sleeps well at night) that these tapes would magically appear if she faced a lesser charge. They tapes were recovered (up and in behind a bathroom light fixture)

Had the tapes been found the case would have much different with poor Homolka facing Murder One charges.

It is unfortunate that the crown could not have revisited the case against Homolka after the video tapes became available, but as they say, the law is an ass. It is a travesty against the families of the victims, apparently there have been numerous death threats against homolka. She may soon be wishing she was back behind bars.
