Golden Horseshoe Aviation CYHM

Post by vanishing point »

Curious about this company. I didn't think there was any training companies left after Peninsulair closed it's doors. Anyone know who's running the place?

I worked at Peninsulair in the late 80's and then at Aero Futures for a while early 90's. Now flying Jazz Dash8 Classics out of YVR.

I believe they have one plane and operate out of the Jetport building. That's about all I know...

John is a great, down to earth guy. (even if you`re a pilot that is still a good thing)

Actually yes, they do have a nice website, especially considering their size. Most schools for some reason have terrible websites, not sure why.

Their website is really incredible. I am not being sarcastic or anything - it's very impressive!

John's a great guy and worked with him before, a dedicated career instructor.
Owns a beautiful 90's Cessna 172 and a Red Bird sim. Haven't had a chance to visit his FTU yet at CYHM, should be a good flight school to work with, worth paying him a visit if you're looking for some training in the Toronto Area.

Thx for the info. I was wondering if those involved were anyone I used to know. Don't recall working with anyone named John.

Cheers

Hi Everyone
I'm the above mentioned John (Maxwell) and we have the flight training unit at CYHM inside the Jetport building. At the moment we have a Cessna 172R model and a Redbird FMX1000 FTD that is certified for IFR renewals. We opened in May and have been growing ever since, and are now starting to shop for a second airplane. We are considering adding Diamond DA20s to the fleet as a 2 seat option for training. As the business necessitates it we will be getting into the multi engine market as well. We've had great results with the training thus far and are looking forward to the new year. And if any of you want to come by and have a look, just call us 289-280-0172. Love to show you around. Everyone be safe over the holidays, and Happy New Year.

I used to also work at Penair. Glad to see training is back at YHM. Congrats, and good luck!

I know they're expensive, but they're a great revenue generator!

Good luck!

I wish you well with your school, John. Hamilton is a great place to fly out of. I certainly enjoyed my time there.

Merry Christmas and a Happy (and successful) 2013!

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. One of these days I may have to host a Peninsulair reunion! I meet a lot of people who have worked or trained at Pen, private, corporate, freight, airline and military. CYHM is a great place to fly out of. Recently I was #4 to land-- behind a Lancaster, B25 and a Harvard! When you're in the neighborhood stop in and say hello-- former Pen Air pilots can take the Redbird out for a test drive......Merry Christmas to All. Be safe out there.
