They sell Snow Goose parkas for Infants. All you see around Toronto is Snow Goose. Kinda of like Hunter $100 rubber boots, Brillant marketing.

I still use my Oil King when I go hunting so it should say something about a 35 year old parka.
Too bad they went out of business. Oh, I know the "woods" name is still out there but they did shut down. Not sure what happened / restructured or ??? but the manufacturing is no longer in Toronto. China I think now.
Had the opportunity to visit the factory once. It was just east of the DVP around King or Queen I think.
Their 5 star sleeping bags were a treasure too.....
Queen just E of DVP you can see the faded lettering on the brick wall. He. Google maps shows it

Countless 'new canadians' can be seen wearing them in +5 degree weather here in vancouver.. Very much a fashion statement. Maybe because of the faux fur?

I'm also in favour of a lighter, more packable jacket that allows more freedom of movement, paired with snow pants if required. I wear a mountain hardwear down jacket that can comfortably be worn while flying without taking up a ton of space. Paired with an appropriate base layer and a down vest if necessary, it is an outrageously warm. Anybody wanting a heavier parka - especially a starving broke FO - would do well to check out this link though. 215$, and totally legit in the quality department.

what do you mean by 'new canadians'?Rowdy wrote:Countless 'new canadians' can be seen wearing them in +5 degree weather here in vancouver.. Very much a fashion statement. Maybe because of the faux fur?
i dont see why you all care. is it because you all thought canada goose jackets should be synonymous with northern bush pilots? annoyed that people arent wearing them for what they were made for? who cares if people view them as a fashion statement? canada goose is making more on sales and i doubt they are concerned about that.
Re: So snowgoose is "cool" now?
Holy shit. All you holier than thow "bush pilots" are concerned over the fact that a Canadian company is being successful. Great for them. Personally, I have learned how to layer in the cold. Canada Goose would be overkill for me.
Rowdy, remember when you were a new citizen overseas? I rememeber shivering in the rain when it was only 28c. Hot towels at Irifushi.
Can't help thinking this thread is about poor pilots (ncluding me) who can't afford one

Re: So snowgoose is "cool" now?
I think this thread is exactly about "fashion" raising the price of an original Canadian product that us working class people supported long enough in their start-up years for them to became "famous". I don't know why people living (not in the north) wouldn't buy a fake, knock-off because from a distance no one knows or cares and the chicken feathers and dog fur trim would be plenty warm for a typical Toronto or Vancouver winter day. Why doesn't CG make a "no-frills" Rampy Special. Warm, ugly & cheap. A new fashion statement for the north. They are big, heavy and bulky but that's how they were made. Like a Woods 5 Star. Not exactly a backpack bag. Mountain Hardwear make great lightweight, warm gear as do a few other "high end" companies such as Marmot, North Face and Arcteryx but all have also made it to Star Status and are equally overpriced. At one time there were several Canadian Companies other than Woods that were making very affordable down vests and short down coats. The reversible green with hunter orange ones. The vest could be bought for about $70.00 ten or so years ago. Unfortunatey, they didn't make it to holywood and have closed up shop leaving a huge void. I have never been a MEC fan for some time now. Canada Goose in aviation terms is like the Beaver when all the movie stars were buying them up and making cadillacs out of pick-ups. Hope everyone gets a Canada Goose for Christmas. Have a good one.

I was born here and wouldn't mind a warmer jacket sometimes. I can't imaging moving here from a warm place.
I nearly posted in this one the other day when it was up to -5 and it felt warm out.
Then there was the other night when a young lady obviously had waited until the car was warmed up before hopping in for a ride to the restaurant wearing a hoody and extra low cut top.

I like their bomber jacket, but if I'm going to spend that kind of cash on a jacket I'd rather spend a bit more and get a reproduction of a B-3 Bomber jacket with the sheepskin. (Even if I get made fun of by some of the people on here because I really don't care! LOL) I'd rock it with Ray-bans too. One of my friends worked at Harry Rosens and bought a Canada Goose jacket. I found it to be a really quality made jacket. 800 dollars for a nice warm jacket that will last many years seems like its still a pretty decent deal. I spent that last month on tools for work. A nice jacket for many of you can be considered a tool of your trade, no need to be jealous or critical of others who enjoy the jackets as well.

Got a woods parka back in high school from the old man when he worked up in yellowknife. Still keepin me warm when im on rotation in iqaluit. Cant beat it!
Re: So snowgoose is "cool" now?
I have the bomber with the removable hood. Forget what it's called. But I had no problem shelling out $650 for a VERY high quality, CANADIAN-MADE product. Sure, getting lumped in with the yuppies on city streets sucks, but so what? I got over it. And as far as the bomber length goes, works great with a pair of Carhartt lined overalls.

I keep my Goose in my survival bag and it has come in handy. I also wear it ice fishing when sitting for long periods with no movement. It serves no good purpose in actual working conditions unless your job is to stand around all day.
Oh... and I guess the Goose is "cool" now. LOL. http://canadadouche.tumblr.com/

In my days of cold weather in Canada, what I found the warmest to wear, especially when I flew a C-150 at -25C, was my Canadian made Mustang Floater suit. I got it when I was in the Navy, and found out that it is is the best thing an active man can wear. As a floater, it was great for ice-fishing, snowmobiling at night in -35C, of flying the cold Cessna's.

Plus.. when its +15 and you're strutting around in a knee length goose down parka, WIDE OPEN with only a tank top and skirt on.. You look like an asshole!
But again.. I'm of the sort of dated form follows function beliefs..
