YVR Assessment Nov 14th
How did everyone feel about the assessment and did you get your results?
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Passed the assessment and I'm now waiting for the first interview. How about yourself?
All in all I thought the assessment was neither easy nor difficult. The audio recording portion was the most difficult for me.
Cheers.

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Congratulations to you both on passing the assessment! I've been really excited about this application process, and am really excited as each new step comes up! Every green light feels like a serious boost to my day!
I got my green light Friday Nov 23rd and got a call to schedule an appointment the Monday following. Shortly after the actual interview call later that week, another applicant that I have been keeping in touch with got a call to schedule an interview. Just this morning I got a green light on my panel that I have to assemble my information for the second interview, so I've been on the phone trying to assemble that chunk of material.
While speaking with the controller who interviewed me I had the opportunity to ask a few questions. Apparently it is still very early in the interview process. The gentleman I spoke with offered that I could tell anyone else who has applied for the program to be patient. There's not too much more I know beyond that, but I can tell you that I really enjoyed speaking to the gentleman who interviewed me for the couple hours we spoke, he was very warm and sharp.
If any of you are in the Vancouver area and want keep in touch about how the process is going for you, I'd enjoy creating a network for anyone going through the testing/interview process who's and you'd be welcome to join us for drinks or a hot beverage when we get together. If we all get into the training in Spring, we could even have an already established study group! Just toss me a message over the forum on how to contact you directly.
I hope you enjoy the process as much as I have so far!

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Yes... got my green light this morning following last week's assessment in CYUL. If you guys don't mind having a montrealer in your message group, I'd like to be added.

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Got the green light this morning. I also wrote in YUL last week but for the YVR FIR. Congrats to those who were successful!
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Has anyone done 2nd interviews and if so did anyone get a red/green light?
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Passed my first interview mid-december, got my green light 3 days later. Now, waiting for my french/english interview which should come shortly after the holidays.
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
I was at the Nov 14th assessment in YVR and have had my second round interview scheduled recently. I really wasn't expecting to get a phone call only a month after the first round interview considering my last time through this process it took 9 months. Just giving you guys a heads up to possibly expect phone calls.
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Just got the green light from the 2nd interview, but was placed in the FSS stream - so that's the end of the line for me. Best of luck to the rest of you in the process.
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Shame. I was under the impression that there is the possibility of "upgrading" from FSS to VFR or VFR to IFR -- or even backwards. Are you going to be reapplying to try to get another stream?
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
You may already be aware of this, but after 3 years of FSS you are able to bid for training spots in IFR / VFR courses. Additionally, they pay you your FSS wage while you train (instead of nothing for those off the street), and if you are unsuccessful in the training you are able to go back to your FSS job.jolt63 wrote:Just got the green light from the 2nd interview, but was placed in the FSS stream - so that's the end of the line for me. Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
I was aware that you could bid for training spots after a few years, but I was always under the impression that if you washed out of training that was it - no going back to your old job. Thanks for the info and I'll keep that in mind. Strange though that my first time through this I was streamed for VFR, which I wanted, then the second go I got FSS.TheJudge wrote:You may already be aware of this, but after 3 years of FSS you are able to bid for training spots in IFR / VFR courses. Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Has anyone else heard the results of their 2nd interview at YVR?
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Did the 2nd Interview in mid December. Green light last week, now we wait AGAIN.....
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Received a green light for the 2nd interview yesterday and have been placed in the IFR stream.
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Green light. Requested VFR, placed in VFR course starting Feb 25th.. Got the prep package in the mail yesterday, have 4 weeks to get through this! Anyone else on here in the VFR course?
I'm sure you have heard in the second interview but if you haven't or you are waiting in a pool...there is an IFR course starting in May and an FSS starting in the fall sometime. They are also thinking about running a second VFR course as well this year.

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
That is what I was told in my telephone interview. There is no guarantees. However, if they have paid x amount of dollars to train you and you have 3 years experience at an FSS facility I would find it hard to believe that they wouldn't AT LEAST just put you on standby and let you know when an FSS position opens up...which from what I hear there is often open positions around the region. it just may require a move, which they would pay for...its not ideal, but I doubt you would be kicked to the curb.jolt63 wrote:I was aware that you could bid for training spots after a few years, but I was always under the impression that if you washed out of training that was it - no going back to your old job. One more thing to note is when bidding up to VFR tower, any IFR or VFR controller will be automatically higher in seniority than you, regardless of years on the job.
example: An opening comes up in CYXX
FSS with 15 years experience, VFR Controller from Langley tower (CYNJ) with 6 years exp, and an IFR controller with 4 years apply.
IFR controller with have highest seniority and will get first dibs at the job.
This is what was explained to me by a tower controller who has been working for 25 years or so. things may have changed since he last transferred, I don't know. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, if someone knows differently, please correct me if I am wrong.
You're in a tough decision. best of luck to you, I hope it works out well for you.
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
KHills,
When did you do your 2nd Interview and when were you notified about the February course?

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
I'm fairly certain that you would not need to go to a different FSS location - you would have return rights to your old job (unless you voluntarily gave them away) until the training ended one way or another.KHills wrote: That is what I was told in my telephone interview. Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Pretty sure you would get a job offer if there is an opening, but I think once you go to OJT out of the school, you aren't guaranteed return rights with EOCO.

Second Interview January 14th. Got a green light on the 22nd, got a call for the course on 23rd.TA/RA wrote:KHills,

Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Thanks! I am really glad for my aviation background with this prep package. 4 weeks would be very difficult to get a good handle on this stuff from square one. If you have a copy of 'from the ground up" it wouldnt hurt to start studying before you get a training offer just in case.
Re: YVR Assessment Nov 14th
Congratulations, KHills! All the best to you.
