Kenn Borek Crash- for anyone who wants to speak to the press

I'm sorry to have to post here under these circumstances.
I'm with CBC News in Calgary where Kenn Borek is based- we're looking to speak with people who knew the three men killed in the Kenn Borek crash.
I understand not everyone will feel inclined to do this. We were all certainly hoping for a different outcome. But, if anyone would like to share with us anything about them, reaction, memories- we would like to speak with you.

I'm sure there are many people who have great stories to tell about the crew, as indicated in the accident thread. However, I would bet many of them are hesitant to share their stories, due to the number of news organisations who have been asking those who have decided to share their memories to speculate on the crash, something I'm sure many aren't willing to do at this stage in the game. Refraining from asking for the interviewee to speculate may yield more persons willing to offer their stories about the crew. Just my thoughts.

You are absolutely right. I cannot and do not expect anyone to speculate on the events or circumstances surrounding the crash. That will all come out in time from the correct sources through investigation.
All we are looking for today (only from people who feel comfortable) is reaction to the human aspect of this story.
It's a heart breaking ending. People in news do not enjoy covering these stories, but they are important.
Who were these men? What should people know about them? Who do they leave behind?
That sort of thing. Again though- we do understand that most people won't want to speak to us, and there is no pressure to do so. Some people may want to though, and if that's the case, they can feel free to get in touch.

If you're going to do a memorial story about the pilots and try to get the viewer more connected to the lives of these people, I think that's great.

Personally I don’t think there will be much(if any) speculation. What else is there to say other than an unpressurised aircraft with limited altitude capability operating in the most remote harshest environment challenging area in the entire world sadly, flew into a mountain. 99.999% of the people who post commentary on the various issues/topics in this site have never been in that area of the world. Out of respect, I think most won't comment.

I just want to say that the Mods have approved Ms Baker's request, and I ask that anyone who does feel comfortable speaking to her feels free to do so. She has approached this respectfully, and would appreciate if everyone would treat it with the same.

Yes, I too am sure that no one here would want to speculate about this tragic occurrence on live TV where they would be identified.

Ms. Baker is welcome to look here though.

If anything at least Ms. Baker you are trying to approach this delicate subject with some sensitivity and a level of responsible journalism that our industry often does not get.

Many of us have lost co-workers, friends and family in accidents over the years only to have the media sensationalize or distort what really happened for the sake of ratings style journalism and to beat the other guy to the headline. So we regard your industry at times with some scepticism.

Good luck with your piece.
And do right by these men, because when we loose one of our comrades a little bit of all of us goes with them.

Alana, not sure exactly what it is your looking for and i don't mean to come across negative. What i can say in the accidents forum 300 plus comments and over 25,000 views should say it all. We all sat on the edges of our chairs praying for a better out come. There have been many accident forums on this site. I don't believe there are any others with so many posts and views in such a short period of time. I think that says a lot for how we all feel.

If it helps you Alana, you can a good idea of Bobs impact on the aviation community which includes myself, by simply searching the amount of posts on this website as well as Facebook. If every pilot who was positively influenced by Bob attended his memorial, one couldn't find a football stadium big enough and half of Canadas scheduled flights would have to be cancelled.

I admire your respectful approach Alana however you have been preceded by others who have sensationalized, misquoted, embellished, falsified and more to make aviation stories into something they never were. I know, gore sells better than beauty. I think as an aviation community we are all a little gun shy when it comes to the press. But I'm sure you know that already.
