Best Hotel to stay in YYC

Post by J31 »

Anyone have some input as to the best hotel to stay that is close to the airport and has walking distance to good restaurants/mall. Can’t be the most expensive place or be a dump either  . We are thinking somewhere around McKnight Blvd and Barlow Trail.

How is the Best Western Porto call? Is it noisy being close to the approach to runway 34?

I usually stay at the Port-o-Call. Close to the airport, they are usually pretty fast with the airport pick up van.

Only complaint is dryness in the rooms.

There is also that hotel on Barlow and 27th across from the Toad 'N' Turtle Pubhouse & Grill. Sorry I can't remember the name, but the Alberta Government aircrew stay there. Knowing how cheap our government is you know its not that much. The Turtle is good fun as well.

Your ops manager can set up an airline rate about 50% off rack rates at the Port O Call. Rooms on the fourth floor (signature floor) are best. Buffet lunch at dining room, quiet bar, noisy bar, espresso bar. Pool tiny fitness room okay, steam room. Shuttle from airport.

I have found that you are better to rent a car (40-50 bucks per day) in YYC. This way you can go to what ever hotel or bar you want. A cab fee in YYC from the airport in 25-30 buck one way. Have fun

Better than the Port-o-Potty-- where the floors and seats are always wet.

Go to the Palliser downtown. Very elegant and expensive. You'll be greeted by tux & tails. It'll make you feel like a king.

If the company is paying - stay at the Sheraton Cavalier - waterslide and all the ladies you can handle at Earls or Tomatoes. If not, you can get the Port-O-Crawl for around 60 bucks. Don't forget to go to "Tropeeks".

The "Cecil".... holy sh*t the last time I went there was to buy offsales, and my buddy kept the engine running.

Notwithstanding ol' King Ralph was a regular there.

Great idea! I was just about to recommend the St. Louis or the King Eddy (now condemed), but the Cecil would do just fine.

Then if you want, stumble down the street to "Cowboys", "Embassy" or any other place your legs will get you, get sloshed if that suits your nature, stagger back, and realize you would've felt just the same staying at the EconoLodge or better yet "Cecil" hotel on 4th (rates are by the hour there). Don't forget the "Denny's" on 7th (LRT Road) on your way back from the club, great for the "I feel like $hit but am still hungy" appetite you seem to develop afterwards. Image
FYI the 'Embassy' is now the 'Mynt Ultralounge'. Much better in my opinion.

Thanks, I gotta get with the news. It's been awhile but I'll be back in YYC this coming summer for my b-day! Looking forward to being back home. Are people calling it the 'C' spot now???
