Re: Spring YVR Course.
The only thing showing for YVR is a VFR course starting Feb 25, so far there are 4 names on the course...
Re: Spring YVR Course.
During my interview I was told they plan to do an IFR course in May and an FSS in the fall (and of course, VFR in February). They were also thinking about doing a second VFR course later in the year as well, but that was far from being decided at the time. (mid-January). Are you waiting for IFR?
Re: Spring YVR Course.
Ya I wouldn't call it so much waiting but more like hoping for a call for an IFR course. They mentioned something about May when I interviewed as well. Just figured we were coming within 3 months of that time frame. Just lookin to see if anyone else has got the call.
Re: Spring YVR Course.
well they gave me 4 weeks notice for the VFR course, so the IFR course may not be filled until late march. 4 weeks prep is doable if you have an aviation background and there are no glitches with your security clearance.
Here are some things you can start thinking about:
- 3 references of present/past employers you want to be contacted. I have been with the same company for the last 6 years, so I had to track down previous managers who were no longer with the company to fulfill the requirement
-If you also wanted to get a head start on the ITA package, pull out an old From the ground up, dust it off and give yourself a good review of weather. (if you have written the commercial and INRAT, it should be no problem at all, just review) theory of flight, navigation - most of this at a PPL level.
-memorize as many airport codes in Canada as you can, doesn't hurt.
I would say the first half of the ITA, if you have written the CPL exam and INRAT it is 90% review. For the second half of the ITA, I would say it is less than 50% review. Hard to say though. I am just glad I had the INRAT and CPL written background walking into it, otherwise 4 weeks would be very tough, especially if you're working and trying to give your boss appropriate notice, etc.
anyway, congratulations on making it this far and best of luck to you!
