Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Is this an attempt to skirt the temporary workers program?
Or is this a genuine attempt of Sunwing looking for ( Canadaian) non 737NG type rated pilots looking for work? ( not that I'm holding my breath)

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
I don't know about them hiring non 737NG type rated pilots, they ask for type rated pilots in the next job posting.
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Company is hiring more permanent pilots. No type rating required for full time positions. Also as far as I know, the Canadian Seasonal pilots are being offered permanent positions and will be on the CAW 7378 seniority list.

Music to my ears!
They better start recruiting and training early for next winter so they don't get caught with their pants down. It nearly happened last fall and if am able to make Transport see the light there will be no validations anymore.....

TC will not stop issuing FLVC's, certainly not because of one person (although your efforts are appreciated by some). I think you can chalk up hiring to a very strong winter season this year with further expansion coming for 2013/2014 and what looks to be a busier European and domestic summer program at Sunwing. Lets hope some of the TS/CJ guys can get in on this new CANADIAN OVER TAXPAYING Pilot hiring... Believe me this is also music to our ears because it only makes us a stronger and more stable company.
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
A year ago I said I see positive changes....and I said: "Time will tell".
Change takes time.... But we are very pleased to see positive progress. Patience and perseverance are virtues often not employed.
You can hand Gilles the Hero Biscuit if you like. Don't overlook the hard work and perseverance of the Sunwing Pilot Group and its Executive.
CAW7378: Thank you.

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
A year ago you had about 150 Canadian pilots. That's what CAW published when you became accredited with them. Now, in their Union press releases, they still talk about "150 members".
Yet last year, you operated a maximum of 24 aircraft between Feb 1 and May, and 23 aircraft between mid Dec and May.
This winter, between mid December and now, and probably until May, you are operating 29 aircraft. Five to Six aircraft more than last year, and for a longer period of time.
Yet your Union still has 150 members.
Of course, there are the 20 non Union seasonal pilots......... but that does not account for an increase of 5.5 aircraft does it ?
Save for the 20 seasonal Canadians, the additional aircraft were essentially crewed by a proportional increase in foreign pilots.......
What will it be next year ?
170 Canadian pilots, 10 seasonal, to operate 40 aircraft, with over 400 foreign pilots ?
Excuse me if I just don't sit on my hands and watch as this unfolds..........

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
The CAW is sitting on their hands?
I would of thought most might be happy to learn that there is more hiring. That the Canadian contractors are being offered permanent year round meaningful jobs. That they are joining the CAW seniority list. How much will the seniority list grow? That is something we all will like to see happen. I do sense that change is in the air and as I have said before... Time will see that change. Will there be an end to expat pilots flying in Canada on short term basis? Time will tell. Probably not. Can it be limited? Probably will.
Will other companies decide to adopt the Sunwing business model of expanding and contracting their fleets? Quite possibly.

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
I think that Sunwing is going to increase the number of full time Canadian pilots as of this summer........
If I was in their shoes, I would have at least a hundred pilots in ground school as we speak, before lightning strikes.....

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
We are hiring and need pilots. Type and non-type rated. At least 50 pilots right away....like yesterday.
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Are those both Captain and First Officer positions?
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
FO back of the list. Upgrades are given on seniority.

Anyone knows Min requirement for FO position. Does Turbo prop time count or Jet time required? Any help will be appreciated.
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
How long has it normally taken for an FO to upgrade to Captain?
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
There is no requirement for jet time, they are looking for 2000 to 3000 TT.
There is an interview with a couple of guys from Flt. Ops. and HR, no SIM eval anymore.
Upgrade questions can be asked at the interview. They are looking for about 50 FOs.
You should be ready to spend 2 to 5 months in Europe in the next few summers.
Everything is seniority based.
Permanent bases are YYZ and YUL and seasonal YVR, YYC, YOW, YQB.
The above info is based on last round of hiring.

More questions - pm me.

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Hello atpilot.
You asked: how long does it take to upgrade to Captain at Sunwing?
The answer to that question depends on when you are hired and what experience level you bring to the table for starters. Supply and demand. It's all about timing of course.
The CAW wishes to see all its pilots have the opportunity to advance. So the first priority is seniority. If qualified and successful in the training process, you will get your upgrade in order of seniority.
Having said this, there have been those hired as FO last summer and during the ground school were given the opportunity to upgrade after the senior FOs who qualified for upgrade had their shot at it.
When there is growth, anything is possible.

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
It is a move in the right direction...
32 guys upgraded initially as seasonal, now being told permanent...
15 seasonal FO's given full status and a seniority number...
50 to 55 new canadians being hired....excellent!
I don't see any reason for complaints...everything takes time, especially in aviation...this has been a long time coming, and it's good!!
Good luck in the interviews guys, and hope to see you on line!!

Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Does anyone know when the groundschool(s) will be?
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Scheduled to begin April 8th.
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Is April 8 the only scheduled ground school or will there be any others?
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
atpilot, I tried responding to your PM, but you don't seem to be accepting them.
Re: Whats the deal with the 2 Sunwing job postings???
Has anyone here been invited to the April ground school? Is there still one for April?
