Hourly, only when the door is closed and the brake is released. Stops when the door opens and brake's set.
Plus per diem, at reported show time, ends at actual end time of trip.

salary based on Mon-Fri, 40 hr week plus OT for everything beyond that at straight time. If away from base, perdiems but no hourly pay on weekends if no flying, away from base. Seasonal(but I bet you guessed that) so EI and whatever in winter.

Salary. I'm not interested in hourly, mileage or daily. I think those are just sneaky ways to treat a pilot like he's just some kind of component, not a real employee like the guys in the office who do all the real heavy lifting. I'm a full-time professional employee. You either need me to work for you or you do not, and I will find a job somewhere else. I'm not interested in wondering how much next month's paycheque is going to be, or how much money I'm going to get next year. I am a valuable professional who does the work that the company gets paid for, and I deserve stability and respect. I'm part of the team. Nothing says this like "salary" as far as I'm concerned.

It may be the way to go for expats, as I saw a sign in my bank today that says that money transfers are limited to 10k USD per month. What do you do with the rest? I think I will buy a bigger suitcase... :smt040

Kay, Meatservo. Since your on salary and therefore are a respected, professional part of the team, you wont mind if your respectfully and professionaly called in whenever theres no flying to clean aircraft, work around the office, shovel snow, etc...after all, your getting paid anyway, and its all helping that team your part of.

Im not completly being a smartass here...this is exactly how some salary operators think. I like mileage. Calcualating how many bucks I made as I fly the last leg of a long day in the summer is very satifying.

That's why I like duty hours. If there is nothing to do... I can bugger off. If I need money, I can clean airplanes. I don't have to sweat giving up a trip because the weather is iffy and good season or slow season I can count on a decent income.

As long as you are being paid a fair wage what is wrong with working for your pay?

Seems mileage/flight hourly is falling out of usage which I think is a good thing overall. That said - for selfish reasons - nothing beats a good mileage/flight hour rate during a busy season. I can't imagine anybody offering a light or medium long-line pilot a 20000 per month salary. How do the heavy lift heli-log pilots get paid?

but is that because youre more talented and qualified or because youre willing to go places or do things that most people wont? Contractors in places like afghanistan and iraq make good money for the same reasons hookers and mercenaries get paid well, not for the same reason doctors are paid well. Just sayin'

Hired as pilot, paid as pilot. If you're going to work for free in the office... Well make sure they put lube on first.

Why would you need lube if you are being paid a fair salary?

I don't understand this paid as a pilot hired as a pilot thing.

thatlowtimer, are you still a low timer? Something tells me the Meatservo isn't working for 25 grand a year. There are jobs out there that pay quite well, and require or expect more than just flying. It doesn't mean you're cleaning toilets on the downtime.

I was just pointing out that salary wont always mean you get a fat check and never have to do anything but cruise into work and go fly. I dont see anything wrong with earning your salary by helping out a bit when theres no flying.

If your on salary for Buffalo Joe though, for example.....you might find yourself wishing for a good milage job.

Every two weeks. Guaranteed 160hours/month whether I work that many hours or not. Overtime on anything over 170hours/month. Stats get banked to use for days off when you want them. Revenue share according to points based on years of service and hours worked in a year and that total gets matched if you put it in the group rrsp plan.

I'm only a class 3 instructor so I get hourly for flight time (hobbs meter), ground briefs and a little office time. Office time is at a lower rate but includes cutting grass, plowing snow, doing journey logs etc. I also teach ground school so I get $800 for 40 hours.

No minimum pay so if I only fly 10 hours in 2 weeks, I only get paid for 10 hours. (plus whatever ground or office time I put in)

Paid every 2 weeks.

Salary plus hourly per diem, benefits and some expenses covered (e.g. Cell phone).

Direct deposit for salary, checks for expenses.

I did work for a company that used e-mail money transfers to get employees their salaries and expenses. Which meant some of us would have to wait up to a week after pay day as the boss would max out his account transfer limits or would "forget" it was pay day.
